He's from a large family in Chicago. His father was a straight-laced Chicago Police Sergeant as well as his grandfather. However, that was not Robert's initial plans. They grew up poor, and always struggling. After working mindless, low paying jobs he decided to do what many do: sign-up with the Chicago Police Department. The job opens his eyes to many personalities, working with the public and even corruption on the force. Bobby eventually focused on goign through law school and became one of the most elite criminal lawyers possesing both intellect and common sense. Yet he fell into Chicago corruption and the mob and paid for it: both in cash and almost with his life. But it was dying father's wish that turned it all around. Cooley writes this book and holds no bones about all he did: good and bad. It's a must read that will drawn you into what he went through ...

I've had the chance to speak to Robert and he has become a good friend. He has answered many tough questions that I had asked him quite honestly.

His grandfather, CPD, was killed in the line of duty and Bobby was almost as well.

When I invited him here, he immediately joined to support the police memorial.

Robert Cooley is a proud Policelink member.

Real interesting book and a great character study, not just of the mob, but of a lawyer torn between two lives. It's not the best mob book, but it is a refreshing take on the subject.
