| Description: | The Model 500 from Smith & Wessonis the biggest, heaviest, most powerful factory-production double-action revolver in the world. It's built on an entirely new and massive S&W frame size. It fires the new .500 S&W Magnum cartridge, which is the most powerful factory load ever developed specifically for handgun use. The gun and the cartridge are both impressive product accomplishments, beyond the industry norm, and both moved together from concept to reality in less than a year. |

Long Distance shooting and hard hitting power. Saying this there should be no reason the .500 isn't the best production firearm known to mankind!

Again, isn't this just a tad too much for LE? Why not just carry an HK69A1 Grenade pistol for a bit more one-handed power?

I have the older sw 29 (basicly the same gun. I would have to agree with dillon and the second review. It's a bit much for most work, but I still carry it for back-up. It has more range, knock down power and penitrating power if needed than my sw 4006. As a fire arms instructor, I have reviewed several shootings where a gun fight went on too long and endangered our community until SWAT arrived, that I could have handled with my SW29. For that reason I do and always will carry my SW29 even with the extra weight and lopsided balance.

"I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?" - Dirty Harry

IF YOU LIKE TO BLOW THINGS UP, THIS IS THE HANDGUN FOR YOU. THE CRAFTSMANSHIP YOU EXPECT FROM S&W AND A REAL TORTURE TO SHOOT, BUT DARN IT'S ALOT OF FUN. DOWN SIDE IS THE AMMO IS OVER $2 A ROUND. YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO RELOAD IF YOU'RE GOING TO SHOOT THIS HOG.

I dont own a .500 but it was the first pistol I ever shot. Just point and shoot. Even if you dont hit the suspect he will die from fear.

I've got the 629 .44 mag and love it, it has enough knock down power for what I want (not a duty weapon). Very accurate and easy to handle. I have a ruger 454 and it has a lot of kick to it. If anyone wants to give me a 500 I'll gladly take it though.

If you must to use a gun, better is to use the king!
Criminals they will take the message since they see it on you.
It's heavy, but because of this you will never forget to take it with you :-)- Flag as inappropriate

Use the Smith and Wessom 629 Classic with a 5 inch barrel. IMO one of the finest handguns ever made. Accurate to the nth degree. Easy to handle. 5" is perfect bbl length. Combines long range accuracy with easy to manage handling.
Extreme Accuracy
Excellent Efficiency, Great Stopper- Flag as inappropriate

The 500 magnum is excellent for for dangerous game. If you work around grizzly bears and the like I highly recommend it.

I had the S&W 629 Classic and a Ruger Super RedHawk, I sold them both and bought a S&W 500 magnum Performance Center with 7.5 inch barrel. Talk about a beast this baby is the Mack Daddy, The recoil isn't as bad on the Performance Center 500 because of the ported barrel but it is pretty loud and earplugs is definitely a must if your going to the range. I have this gun strategically placed in my home in case of home invasion. Great gun and much more affordable than the higher priced Desert Eagle 50 caliber and is more powerful as well.
