| Description: | Never as common in the police or military communities as either the P220 or P226 and pretty well replaced by the P228 and P229 today, the P225 remains a popular conventional DA/SA 9mm semiautomatic pistol. Lightweight and easy to carry concealed, many private citizens carry these guns as have uniformed police in other countries, particularly what was then West Germany where it was known as the P6. The P225 can be thought of as the "Commander" version of the P220. Like the Star Model BM this gun can be found new or like new albeit at a higher price than the Star commands. It seems to generate some interest on gun boards so I wanted to do an extensive report on these guns for those potentially interested in buying one. Specifications: Length: 7.09" Height: 6.37" Weight: 1.81 lbs. (empty) Barrel: 3.86" (1:10 twist with standard rifling) Width across grips: 1.255" Action: conventional double-action first-shot with single-action after Locked Breech: yes Frame: anodized aluminum alloy Slide: stamped steel with solid breech face pinned in place Sights: fixed and dovetail-installed front and rear (On this gun No. 9 rear and No. 8 front) Sight radius: 5.7" Magazine: single-stack, 8 shot, and removable floorplate Magazine release: at rear of trigger guard; not reversible Stocks: checkered black plastic secured by two screws on each panel Beveled magazine well: yes, barely FLGR: yes, one-piece, recoil spring not captive Recoil Spring: braided and factory standard @ 16 lbs. Mainspring: coil and factory standard @ 24 lbs. Extractor: internal Internal firing pin block: yes Half-cock notch: No, but the hammer cannot move forward and strike the firing pin unless the trigger is in its rearward position. This is not a half-cock notch per se but does the same thing. Not only is the firing pin blocked until the trigger is pressed rearward but the hammer cannot even touch it until that point. External safety: no External slide stop lever: yes Decocking lever: yes Trigger pull: DA/SA rated at 12.1 and 4.4 lbs., respectively. It is also interesting to note that the slide rails extend the full length of the frame. There is a steel insert in the frame at the lower rear of the hammer. The hammer is a serrated, somewhat abbreviated spur type that is not prone to biting the hand shooting the gun. The trigger is stamped and has a smooth face. The stocks cover the rear grip strap of the gun. The ejector is stamped and part of the internal portion of the hold open device. This conventional DA consists of 58 parts counting grip panels and washers. |

Fantastic pistol, can't get over how well it shoots or conceals. Very nice when compared to a H&K P7M8 or a 4" 1911 in 9mm. Like any SIg, smooth and accurate. Only downside is it's caliber, better than a .380 ACP but still no .40 S&W or .45 ACP. Still, it will chew through +P+ with no problem. I sold my Glock 27 and Walther PPK/s when this came along.

Extremely accurate. I'm not a fan of 9's, but I've shot this one extensively and I've been duly impressed with the overall weapon.

Excellent weapon. This was my first Sig and it was accurate and reliable. The only reason I opted for the 228 was the additional Mag capacity. I still love the 225 though. Heck, what can beat a Sig?

When I started my career I had a choice of a 38 ruger service six revolver or a sig 225 auto. The 38 was easy to carry and use and accurate. But it's was to slow on the reloads. So I switched to a 225 only problem was at least 3 cases would fly up and hit in glasses everytime. Eventually switched to a mandated glock 22 . but carried a 226 when not one duty

I love this gun. My grand father had a M1911-A1 with 8 rounds and I had my Sig P225 with 7. I hit 7 times and he hit 1,don'1 get me wrong he's a good shot but the Sig beats most guns.

Just purchased one of the P6 guns that have come on the market from West Germany. The best $325 that I ever spent on a gun. Functions flawlessly and is very accurate for a fixed sight gun. Fits perfect in the small of my back in a uncle mikes holster. This has become my off duty carry gun. I put the S&W and the Taurus back into the safe. Worth the money, check one out if you get the chance.

I always wanted a P225 as long as I could remember, but could never justify the price. When I ran across a P6 for $345, I couldn't pass it up. My gun worked perfectly right out of the box, is accurate, and controllable. I love shooting it. This is one SigSauer I'll keep.

I have always loved my S&W 686 .357 mag revolver for it accuracy. I have carried a Glock 22 recently for my duty weapon. After Shooting the Sig I have change over. The more I shoot it the more I love it for different reasons.

This is the pistol I am using in my start to competition. A small pistol for IDPA. I have fired numerous times, and love it ore every time. The one my mom has put on hold for me is the old German police carry, It has the "hooked hammer". People think it is and indicator to the pistol being dropped, but it is actually where a band would go to signal that the pistol had been fired.

Until the other day I had never even fired a gun I got to try out a few at the range with my trainer ,steve. He has been shooting for 24 years as a west allis cop,d-tec,and now training captain and in his opinion it looked like I "was made for that gun". To me it felt like there was no presure to shoot perfect just aim and fire and when I did I knew that it was the one for me. Usually he prefer sending newbys to a glock225 but for me sig works. And regardless of pasissing the physical stuf I now know that is the one I am going to bear proudly.

Love the Sig. Shoots straight and allows you to shoot through as long as you aim through! Minimum recoil and easy maintenance and with a firing pin blocking pin (as mentioned above) it is a very safe weapon to concel.

On the market for a couple of year now and it can not match with the latest modells, but still a great 9mm pistol. Very reliable - I never had a malfunction. It is phased out these days with most of the police departments in Germany but it serves for a long time and was a safe and good pistol. Only wish it had a larger magazine - but this is why the P226 was on the market.
I like the P6 (this is how the P225 is called in the police here).- Flag as inappropriate

While I carry on the Job a Glock 22 It is very good weapon indeed but wish the department allowed this weapon insted but do carry the SIG SAUER P225 as my other(back up) weapon but rather it over the Glock any day I have field tested it and tried to get it into our department but everyone knows how that went all I can say is try it U will love it more than any semi auto pistol u have ever used!!!!

My favorite Sig of all time! It fits my hand like a glove! I love the narrow grip on this single stack 9mm. I own almost all the Sig models and carry a P226 40 cal as my duty gun, but still the little P225 is what fits me best and feels just right!

I used it in a qualification. I ejoyed the sighting and I think my eye is set for this sight as to the Glock. I found it easy to clean. I really not a gun expert, but I have used several models and have fallen in love with the Sig line. I have a thing about safety and it was not easy to give up my old 357 and 38 sp. But this weapon put that to ease for me. Not suppose to say this, Boy it felt good in the hand....

This gun is great! Wouldn't ever sell it. It's shoots true and I've never had a jam in thousands of rounds i've put thru it and I bought it used too! It's solid that's for sure!

With the exception of a Glock, Any Sig Sauer is worth the money. I love my Sig and only carry a Glock because of department policy. The Sig is my weapon of choice for a back up and off duty weapon. It is lighweight in comparison to other handguns and is durable. I have never had a misfire or jam with it in over 12 years of carry.

The Sig 225 is what an auto pistol should be. Perfect all around 9mm when it comes to size, design, reliability and accuracy. Too many shooter today worry too much about high capacity firearms, when the 225 is all you really need for defensive purposes ..... They don't make em like this any more.
