| Description: | The FN P90 submachine gun (SMG) was developed in the late 1980s as a personal defense weapon for the troops whose primary activities does not include small arms, such as vehicle and tank crew members, artillery crews etc. In fact, most services and agencies that adopted P90 use it for offensive roles, as a specialist or even a primary weapon for various assault teams, and other "professional small-arms users", as opposed to military personnel which primary functions do not include use of small arms. The P90 is the ultimate system for operating in urban and other close-quarter battle scenarios. This system is built around the revolutionary 5.7x28mm ammunition. It utilizes the SS190 armor piercing duty round, but since the dual-core projectile destabilizes on impact, over penetration is unlikely. Perfectly fitted for law enforcement and tactical teams. |

I had a chance in multiple occasions to test-shoot this weapon at Florida Swat Round-Up trade shows. I like this esoteric and excellently manufactured weapon. However, due to the rising popularity of the 5.7 x 28 mm weapons among mexican cartel gunmen (one such group is the Gulf cartel-related "Zetitas" - little Zetas, which is active in the Texas cities of Houston, Laredo and San Antonio, as well as other places), this guns (cartel enforces have begun to call the weapons matapolicias – police killers) can be also obtained from the Mexican black market (weapons are acquired/stolen in the United States and end up south of the border), so beware! If somebody is interested, I can send a copy of the report: MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS: The Evolution of Violence, October 17, 2007. Please send me a note: rene@estonian-air.ee.

Can someone say NO STOPPING POWER. The bullet can go though almost any armor, but its very limited in what it can do to an unarmored person. A cop killer.

That may be true, but it is damned accurate for only having a 10" barrel. I have shot this baby and if I needed a compact weapon, I would pick this or the F2000 (see my review) depending on my ammuntion and AO. I have also seen this honey cut a foot and a half log in half. Ouchies.

I had the (wonderful) opportunity to test fire this at a LE range and I give it an A++++ rating:
Over a thousand rounds with ZERO malfunctions and enough firepower to get the job done. It's bullpup design make it especially well suited for urban use and while it pains me to say it, I would absolutely choose it over a 5.56mm AR-15.- Flag as inappropriate

MY AGENCY HAS HAD THIS WEAPON FOR OVER 4 YRS AND IT FIRES ALMOST FLAWLESSLY. I HAVE FIRED THOUSANDS OF RDS WITHOUT ANY MALFUNCTION. THE POWDER BURNS CLEANLY AND IT DOESN'T REQUIRE A LOT OF CLEANING. AS FOR STOPPING POWER, IT WILL PUT A THREE OR FOUR RDS BURST WITHIN A 2 INCH CIRCLE AT 35 YDS, WITH THAT KIND OF ACCURACY IT WILL KILL ANYTHING YOU HAVE THE EXPERTISE TO HIT. THE ONLY REASON I DON'T GIVE IT FIVE STARS IS BECAUSE IF YOU HAVE TO ENGAGE ANYTHING OVER 150 YRDS, YOU NEED AN M-4 OR ANOTHER LONGARM WITH A CARTRIDGE OF AT LEAST 5.56.

Awesome close quarters combat weapon for offensive maneuvers. Now, the bad side. Stopping power is not their, if they don't bleed out or you destroy a major organ do not assume they are dead. This gun has a tendency to wound rather than kill. Range, forget it. I prefer a better all around M4 shortie or simular model.

Neat looking little firearm! I want to try this out next time i go to the range. I have heard great things about this. Even with the 10" barrel it supposed to really accurate. Can you put a longer barrel on it though?

Everything about this one is good. In close quarters this system is deadly and it requires limited attention to keep it clean. It's compactness adds to your ability to control the burst and stay on target. Best use is going to be clearing buildings for active shooter situations.

This is an excellent weapon. It isnt a cop killer because criminals usaually dont have access to them and these have been out for a while and they have never been used aginst police. But any wase they are hard to beat in close quarters combat.Put a eo-tech on one and your good to go.

This isn't a cop killer. A criminal isn't going to go out and buy one of these, he's going to buy some piece of junk like a hi-piont or some peice of crap like that. Well any wase this is a great sub machinegun. Put an eotech on one and your ready for anything in close quarters.

The P90 is an OUTSTANDING weapon. I have put plenty of rounds through it and it ALWAYS functions flawlessly. Any entry team would benefit from having some of these. I have an M16 with an 11 1/2 inch barrel and even though I have it functioning great with an adjustable gas tube and heavy buffer, I still wouldn't trust it as well as the P90. It is COMPLETELY RELIABLE, and it is awesome having 50 rounds in a magazine.

I have never shot this bad boy but what can i say. Small, high rate of fire, and has one of the highest mag capacity of its class. My personal favorite submachine gun.

An ugly little PDW that is ahead of the curve and one of my all time favorite weapons to shoot. 1/3 recoil of the 9mm, ejects the brass straight down so you don't hit you battle-buddy with hot cartridges and totally ambi. The newer USG model with the black retical is a HUGE inprovement over the original ring sight, which would 'wash-out' against certain colored backgrounds. The USG sight ( also called USSS or the "secret service sight") uses Tritium to illuminate the vertical and horizonal wires of the sight, were the original uses a fiberoptic collector to gather any ambiant light. I haven't had a chance to shoot the P90TR, or Tri-Rail model, but it does allow you to mount any 1913 AKA Piccatinney-mountable sight, though you do loose the back-up iron sights that come on the other models. The trigger pull isn't bad for a bullpup rifle, but the safety selector can be stiff and hard to move with just your index finger.
Anyone that says this weapon has not stopping power is dead wrong. Just like ANY projectile, you have to have the right tool for the job. If you use the SS190AP round, which is armor piering, then of course it won't deform or fragment and just punch a nice little hole all the way through. But if you use the SS195LF which is hollow point, or the SS196SR or SS197SR, which are loaded with Hornady V-Max polymer tipped .224 bullets, then yes, it will destroy tissue, due to the bullets expanding or fragmentation.
Pros: easy to handle, easily pointable
small & lightweight
50 round magazines
fully ambidextrous
easy to field strip and clean
Cons: ammo can be expensive and difficult to find off the shelf
the receiver castings have alot of mold lines (purely cosmedic though)- Flag as inappropriate

A weird little gun that does exactly what you want it to. For some the learning curve is a little steep because of how the gun functions, but once it's mastered 5 shots auto in the cabesa is a walk in the park.

I own the FN PS90 which is the semi auto version of this subgun. Mine is outfitted and ready for use. I recommend this to anyone who buys this to change the factory scope. The cross hairs are hard to see in the daylight. an EoTech or Reflex type scope is recommended.

1) The Mexican drug cartels are NOT getting P90's from the United States, despite what the anti-gun lobby would like you to believe. P90's are not sold to any individuals in the country except people with an SOT license who demo the guns for LE agencies. Otherwise, they are only sold to military and LE agencies. The ammunition that will penetrate armor is restricted in the same manner.
2) The P90 was never desienged or intended to compete with or replace any rifle caliber weapons (such as the AR family to which it's constantly compared). It was designed to replace military sidearms (i.e. handguns) for support troops who would normally get just a sidearm. The P90 beats a sidearm in terms of accuracty (shoulder mounted), penetration of armor worn by enemy soldiers, and capacity (50rds vs. 15rds). While it gives better range than a sidearm, it was designed as a close combat weapon. A role it serves quite well.
