This has been a favorite book of mine since I took my first management class in college 15 years ago. I have since not only read this, but have the pocket version with me, and have read "The Art of War for Managers". It spells out the most basic concepts in ways that make you think "how can anyone do this any other way?" It is a must read not only for everyone in law enforcement, from the academy to the Chief or Sheriff, but also for parents, teachers, and anyone who deals with people on a regular basis.

Great book that is nearly 1000 years old yet applies to today. Scary thing is that many white "skinhead" prison gangs are using it as their manual.

Interesting that this book is being reviewed. I was in the bookstore a few weeks ago looking for a copy of this to take with me on the plane while I was on vacation. I have read it before and wanted a copy with me. To my surprise, there are many editions, commentaries, layouts and sizes of publication of this volume. I picked up what I thought was the closest to the original book I read many years ago.
You might want to pick up a volume that provides a little historical background. That way you can read it in context.
And certainly, what has already been said, exceptional reading. Definitely leadership required reading.

Read this years ago. A great mindset foundation for both military and LE tactical thinkers as well as rank and file members. Amazing that it still stnds up so well so long after it was written.

Great insight! I also found several translations in the book store. I opted to purchase the basic writings and get the complete review and historical version from the library. Good reading!

I have read several different books based on the art of war and I always come back to the Original. I even lose a little respect for supervisors who have never read it.

I remember a former Air Force Captain I worked for years ago gave this book to me because he had just read it and thought it was great. I've re-read it many times over the years and each time I read it I learn something new.

There are three books that I think should be mandatory reading for Warriors of any kind, they are The Art of War and its companion The Art of Peace both by Sun Tzu, The Sacred Path Of The Warrior by Chogyam Trungpa and The Toltec Teachings by Theun Mares. There are many others, but these are must reades. Good call, Nikk

Excellent book, truly examines the mindset and means to be victorious in battle situations, as well as any day to day conflict, both physical and mental. Another great read in this same vane is The Book of Five Rings. Highly recommend both.

I have a vast library and am asked what I believe are must reads for LEOs. Sun Szu is always in my top 10. in all of lifes endeavors: profession, family, politics the principle are timeless and effective. All personal/professional goals should include tenents from his writings.
