The only thing I can think of and I may be wrong. The article does not mention anything about the father, or what has happened to him. I'm guessing the father has not be charged with anything as of yet. He was responsible for the child when she disappeared, so maybe the mom's thinking at least they can get him on something. Maybe he would slip up on something and more clues would come out.
