Oh yeah, forgot the USSR and Cuba as examples of big government debacles.

Beowulf, you forgot the liberal enclave of Newark NJ. Blue states paying for emergency funds used primarily in red states? Are you freaking kidding me? Y'all had a little storm a while back, Sandy I think it was called. How did big brother take care of that with purple state money? How about the biggest terrorist attack on American soil? Was that handled with pink money?
It is sad to see how pervasive big brother has become to some people, at least it is pervasive when they have a favorable opinion of who they perceive to be running it. Government is not your friend. It only exists to provide protection for the homeland. All these other little agencies which include most unearned entitlement programs (read welfare, food stamps, etc.) are not the problem of the taxpayer. Neither is our healthcare by the way. The more people are enamored by the call of big government to in essence buy their vote the more they become enslaved to the idea that big government is there to help. That is not what this country was founded upon. Can you imagine our founders waiting for big government handouts to build this country instead of allowing free enterprise? The thought process, innovation, maturation (obviously), and motivations of people are diminished when they have things handed to them "for free". By the way it's not really free. Somebody has to pay for it (taxpayers). Eventually the dregs on society will outweigh the taxpayers and the whole thing collapses. One wonders if there is an original thought forthcoming or is it going to be more regurgitation from ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, PBS, NY Times, Washington Post, MSN, ESPN, Comedy Central, huffington post, and every other liberal talking point repeater out here? I seriously doubt it.shut down the government, it isn't working for the good of America. The only thing it works for anymore is special interests (see the above list of organizations for an example).

Actually. . .no I don't. However, as I have said before, I won't allow liberal trash thought that is and of itself a blatant lie, to go unchecked. KCecala's story is not the first one that I had heard. . .today! However, the numbers were very similar! As for the government "creating" jobs. . .the only way to spin that one is with that new Common Core math. Government, whether it be city, state or federal produces nothing! SOME of the services may be necessary, there are plenty of cases to show that there are plenty of private organizations out there that can do the job better AND get more bang for the money than the government could EVER pretend to get for the same dollar. For starters, the Postal Service! Fed Ex and UPS run rings around the USPS in ALL ways!

Secondly, Charter Schools are generally run more efficiently and with greater results than public schools! Yes, you could probably find some of the bad apples in that mix, but pound for pound, charter schools win that one hands down!

Missouri has chosen to lease out their driver's bureaus to private companies. . . .why? Because they run it more efficiently than the state can!

Louisiana hires private companies to transport their prisoners around the state. Do I need to repeat the reasons why?

Do I really need to continue with the examples? Governments prefer to run the lazy route of throwing good money after bad HOPING the problem goes away. They NEVER tie "production" or quality of work to the money because that means that they would have to have a quality assurance program (more money) in place to keep people honest about their work habits. . .much less just being honest. Washington D.C had a little problem a few years ago with their police officers not being able to testify in court. Why? Because the amount of known felons on the force was too much for the prosecutors to handle!

Two final thoughts here. . .if liberal progressivism works so well. . . .why do the cities of Detroit, Washington D.C., New Orleans, Cleveland, and other Democratic run cities look like war zones EXCEPT for the first mile (maybe) nearest the mayor's office and home? Secondly, the liberal progressives are the ones screaming for gun control (and no, Bloomberg is not a conservative), yet those with the most stringent gun laws, I.e. Chicago and Washington D.C., are the ones with the highest murders with guns? In the end, the government has to TAKE money from the producers to give it to the non-producers and no, New Jersey is not a contributing state. . .it receives it's fair share (and then some) of government funds.

Beowulf_7, you love busting my bubble, admit it. :P

Anywho, I'm working right now in the Blue state of NJ, so I can help pay off emergency funds mainly used in the Red states.

I'll be back later to continue our Love-Hate relationship and to annihilate (or shall I say tread?) all over your argument.

    Stay tuned.........

Bump Beowulf_7. If the federal government cannot afford to run without a deficit, shut it down until they can figure out how.

    Bump Beowolf_7.
I work in a small business. My employer is one of the few here that offers health insurance. It runs about 350.00 a month for our employees. Most opted out because as a restaurant employee it was too expensive. One of our girls applied for ACA on Friday. The cheapest option was 595.00 a month with a 10,000.00 deductible. Most of the options were from BC/BS. She received an email later that day explaining her penalties because she opted out.
4000.00 a year. If you refused to pay you lose your license. Then they put a tax lien on your home.
I don't know about the rest of you but my girls can't afford this so called ACA. Can we have health insurance now?
    4000.00 a year.

Lana. . . . .I hate to burst your bubble, but no where in the Constitution does it say ANYTHING about the Federal Government's job as one that CREATES jobs. In fact, the Federal Government is a DRAIN on jobs. Every time taxes go up. . . . . more jobs are lost. When one looks at the cost of the ACA, it actually drains approximately 7% of our Gross Domestic Product which in turns, causes an overall loss to the public through the higher costs of products, lost revenues to the businesses and lost jobs due to the higher cost of doing business . . .and ultimately higher taxes to pay for something that the majority of the people didn't want then and still don't want now!

The ACA has actually been costing people jobs just so businesses can get under that 50 full time jobs limit set by the act. How do I know? I've seen it first hand with the businesses that I go into day in and day out. EVERY BUSINESS OWNER that I have talked to is afraid that if they don't get under that 50 full time employees, they are going to get it stuck in the a$$ with having to provide health care to their employees. THAT is a big bill that many businesses just cannot handle on their profit margins.

Many businesses are refusing to hire anyone right now because they don't know how the ACA is going to affect their business with the extra employees. That means that when someone retires or moves on, the rest of the employees have to pick up the slack because they know that the business is not replacing that person, yet the job still needs to get done or they could lose their jobs also!

It is funny how people without any business experience think that businesses are just this great big money machine that has money to burn. First, if they were put in charge of the business. . . they would run it into the ground (see what the jack a$$ in the White House has done with our country). Secondly, the burden put on society because some idiot tried tinkering with one business and put it out of business, is of such a nature that it could cause more businesses to close because of the LACK of people to do business with. . . . you know, the people that had a job before the liberal mind took over the first business and ran it into the ground.

No, the TEA party is trying to restore sanity to the U.S. budget but the likes of Read, Pelosi and Obama are just going to keep pushing the U.S. down and down until we lose all credibility with the rest of the world. In fact, some believe that is Obama's actual goal. Crash the U.S. monetary system so he can be the savior and implement a VERY Socialistic. . . .if not Communistic form of government. You know, FOR THE GOOD OF THE PEOPLE!

Last week we just had Capitol Police in DC risking their lives by practically getting mowed down by a woman who went insane.

Additionally, we also have 800,000 Gov. workers furloughed, and the American people are starting to smell the what's trickling down from Congress.

GOP's implemented strategy is now akin to TRICKLE DOWN WRECKONOMICS.

If speaker Boehner dried his crying eyes for a moment, maybe he could see that most Americans don't want him to be manipulated by radical radical Tea-tards who are funded by the wealthie$t Americans, i.e. (K0ch Brothers)

Macro-manage for once Speaker, and stop attempting to negotiate a law that's already been approved by the Supreme Court, as it's evident the POTUS is not going to negotiate with TEA-o-rist, and could care less about their billionaire Donors.

ACA is the law of the land, while it's not pristine, It will benefit many. As time passes, the glitches will eventually ironed out over time.

Now please stop wasting Americans time and money appealing the ACA at a whooping ($73,000.000) just for the sake of grandstanding, and create the jobs you were elected to do.

Shutting down the Government is not congruent to how a democracy works, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Atlantic City FD to lay off 51 Firefighter. They were hired with a federal grant. A lot of departments in New Jersey, police and fire use federal money to hire, this could have a major impact in NJ and I'm sure the rest of country.

What about the ones like Federal Law Enforcement that are considered critically essential and forced to work, cannot even take off sick unless your sickness is "life threatening" and can be verified, and are working for IOUs because there are no funds to pay even those that are working?

What about those LEOs whose spouse is also a Federal LEO like a lot in local LE, and now you have a 2 income family with no income, but forced to go to work every day like nothing has changed and still have to pay their babysitters because they won't take IOU's?

This fiasco affects both those that are actually at home on furlough and those who are deemed critically essential and forced to work w/o being paid...

Funny how the shutdown has affected so many. Please tell us Matt, how has it affected you personally?
There is a large military base in my county. Folks are getting up every single day and going to work. I am pretty sure they receive their funds from the Feds. Heck if hey haven't been bothered then I am still good. Defense of the country (what the federal government is supposed to provide) is cool. Welfare, disability, food stamps, 0bamacare, etc. I can do without. If king 0bama would negotiate as he should this would all be moot however since he wishes to continue to perpetuate the liberal dogma of wealth redistribution I say shut it down. Once again, how has it affected you personally? That's what I thought.
