This would,of course, not be newsworthy if his nephew were not the President.

Well if you're kin to the sitting pres, you likely can get away with most anything.

A deportation hearing is just that--a hearing. His lawyer seems confident that the outcome will be his legal status will be reaffirmed. I think you're right--he will be allowed to stay.

Oops--I stand corrected. He's already "legal"--he was granted asylum in 2010. I don't know how this figures into the deportation hearing, though.

Well, he's clearly going to be staying for another several months if this "Dec 3" date is accurate. By then, some form of immigration reform will have passed and he may have "legal status" and the opportunity to avail himself to whatever "path to citizenship" the reform provides--presuming he wants to be a citizen.

Even though he broke the law several times I Seriously Doubt this will occur he will be allowed to stay just like his Aunt because they might be persecuted because of who their nephew is!
