"A lot of people say, 'Why do you need these guns?'" said Assemblyman James Tedisco, a Schenectady Republican. "It's part of the freedoms and liberties we have. ... It's for our public safety. It's to protect us from our own government."
He said the bill was dangerous because it would give people a "false sense of well-being."
"You are using innocent children killed by a madman for your own political agenda," he said. "You are actually making people less safe."
Definitely an impotent, knee-jerk reaction. However, I blame the NRA. If they weren't so adept at scaring the US Congress away from sensible measures, there'd be little reason for the states to pass do-nothing measures such as this.
Bump to all responses. Another feel good law that does nothing but punishes law abiding citizens.
Glad I don't live in NY nor do I have any interest in visiting...
Way to fast in the law making since the investigation into what really happened and how is not complete yet!
This is a half baked measure that something effective has been done....when it has not!
let the overeactions begin....the criminal will just say " i'll just have to carry more clips "..duh..no matter how many laws you pass the criminal will still break them. how about sharpening the "teeth" to existing laws like actually carrying out the death penalty,no more early releases for crimes commited with a gun, or illegal possession,or purchase.ect....don't overeach and punish good citizens instead of the few who terrorize soo many.....
Political Smoke & Mirrors. What criminal is going to stop using a weapon or magazine so he doesn't get charged with a misd if he is commiting murder, agg assault, rape, armed robbery, kidnapping, etc.? Stop the revolving door of our justice system and punish the criminal, not the citizens who just own a weapon or magazine.
"At what point do you say, 'No more innocent loss of life'?" Of course it's all the gun's fault.
Save time in your search for a criminal justice degree program.
