Thomas Jefferson spoke a truth when he said ""The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it." I saw an article that stated there are approximately 310 million registered firearms in this country. The population of the U.S. is approximately 360 million. In percentages that means that 86 of 100 people in this country own a firearm registered in their name. Thats not to mention the number of people who have purchased firearms or traded for them and are not in their name. I have a strong feeling that not many of us will surrender our firearms, the tool that literally helped this nation establish itself, willingly to anyone. When it comes down to it Government is made up of individuals. When SHTF we'll see how many of them stick by the laws they helped write. It seems to me that many of those individuals need a reality check.

Since Drudge Report was mentioned here, (imo) Drudge just skirts the real issues and cleverly sidetracks you by using several tactics. Again this is jmo, but if you look closely, Drudge practices demonizing people, fear mongering and hyperbole.
It's not difficult to figure out why they would 'link in' Alex Jones as their sidearm. Alex Jones has every right to his first amendment, but If anyone chooses to do a little research on Alex Jones here's a 9 minutes video in his own words of him ranting 42 very laughable and very false predictions.
It's kinda funny but I could do without the narrator in between. :)

These are 2 different issues.
Protection for an ex-POTUS should be provided as we need to protect the Position of the Office and our Nation as a whole, whether you like the person who was in the Office or not, as Steve points out below.
And, I hope the current POTUS and/or Congress does not try to disarm the American people as the headline suggests, but we do need laws to protect the American people and I think we all agree on that.
Would anyone want a convicted violent felon like a murderer, armed robber, etc., having the ability to legally buy a gun? Would anyone really want the average citizen to legally buy fully automatic military type weapons like an M-60 machine gun, a grenade launcher, etc., without some sort of enhanced licensing procedure?
I just hope the hysteria created as a result of the recent mass shootings is balanced with meaningful discussions, research, and a comprehensive approach to ensure we have adequate gun laws in place to protect the citizens of our country, w/o infringing upon our 2nd Amendment rights...

I have no problem with this, this would be a major prize to any Terrorists foreign or domestic to assassinate a former President or Vice President ! It should extend to all living Presidents! They represent America as a nation, an attack on them is an attack on us!

More continuous tax burden on the general public after being in office and getting all their perks they have voted for themselves most if these millionaires can afford to pay for their own protection! However it seems some of these politicians are Hipocrits getting this protection while trying to legislate and regulate and chop away at the Second Ammendemnt of the common man!!!
