The C/O was protecting life ( even if it was another inmate ), just as he had sworn to do. No investigation needed here, IMHO.
CO's have to be able to see what is going on around them at all times, and it takes a strong body and mind to confront the rigors of dealing with convicts.
Well, he did the job he swore and upheld to do!
DO WHAT THE COPS TELL YOU TO DO EVEN IN PRISION...SIMPLE!
