No excuse for this, no dog should be left unattended in a closed vehicle for any extended length of time regardless of air conditioning, fans, etc. All departments need to create and enforce w/o excuse policies on protecting police dogs and especially on leaving dogs in cars. This has happened way too often and all these deaths or near deaths were preventable...

I hope so Scjohnk. I have friends working for that agency and hopefully they will shed some light into this tragic incident. Have seen their K-9 unit patrol vehicles and they are well-equipped with fans and A/C units for the dogs. Just not sure which vehicle this pup was in since he was working with the undercover officer.

This is the second type K-9 death in a short while. Hopefully it was a mechanical problem with the vehicle and not the Officer's fault. that's alot of guilt to carry.

Temps have been in the high 90's the past few days. What a tragic story! RIP K-9 Harley.
