I am saddened by the friendly fire. As a nra supporter, I am lost about your weapon being cleared upon removal for cleaning. I carry and I drop the mag everytime and clear the chamber with visual followup. A short cut? I am thankful to God no death.

Neglient discharge, not accidental discharge. As Skoolcop pointed out, there would have to have been at least one and probably several mistakes/ violations of proper procedure (not accidents) for this to happen. speedy recovery to the injured officer as well.

Well stated SkoolCop.No doubt the leo feels terribly about this.I am figuring anywhere between a written repremand to a one-three day suspension.

This is happening WAY TOO OFTEN to people that it should NOT happen to. GRANTED, I was not there. But assumptions and speculations aside, one of two scenarios occurred that should not have.
    Either:
    A) Something was done that should not have been done.
    or
    B) Something was not done that should have been done.

    1) ALL firearms are to be considered and treated as LOADED
    2) ALWAYS point the firearm downrange and away from anything or anyone that you do not intend to kill or destroy
    3) Remove the magazine from the weapon
    4) LOCK the slide to the rear and if necessary, remove the round from the chamber
    5) VISIBLY and PHYSICALLY check the weapon to make sure that it is EMPTY
    6) Continue to break down and clean the weapon

SLOW DOWN AND REMEMBER JUST WHAT YOU ARE DEALING WITH. WE SHOULD NEVER BE COMPLACENT IN THE FIELD......... OR IN OUR TRAINING.
