From the comments and the article maybe some LEO's are not cut out to be K9 handlers? Just a thought.
I was bitten on the right calf by a police dog early on in my career. That was a handler issue who did not have control of his dog, H@ll he was not in the same room as the dog which was on a long lead, not in his view and allowed to walk into an area where several officers were during a building search for burglary subjects and I was a split second away for shooting this dog who had a piss pour handler!
K9's make mistakes just like a Human would, seems like there were some difficult choices to make in this incident.
Prayers for the speedy recovery of the bitten officer.
It does sound like there's more to the story.
A lot of unanswered questions, where was the K9 Officer, does not sound like a situation that the dog should be 'off lease' with other officers in the area.
A difficult decision and a lot of questions not answered in the article in my opinion.........I'll leave it at that!
