Pot fields. What, to save on chopper shots? Give me a break.
Looks like somebody had to use up a pool of money before it went back into the general fund. LMAO.
I have mixed feelings. I can see the pros and cons. There would have to be strict guidelines for their use. The thing that gets me is the price tag!! $150,000!!!!????? I am sure you could build a lot more than two of these things for $150,000 by going to your local hobby shop and camera store. Just because it was obtained from a grant makes it ok? Spending that much on them is a waste of money that could be used for REAL equipment the officers could use!!
The problem with the drone is the limited area of control. I assume that after a certain distance the controller would be out of range so unless they are looking for pot fields or overhead views of a large tract of land or the tops of high-rise building they are not very useful. Can't use them like a help for a vehicle chase. Also you would have to send so many officers to school to learn how to fly them! They need to be sold to someone who can use aerial surveillance and recoup as much money as they can.
Well, now that the chief knows about them maybe they'll get used. The department isn't huge nor tiny, but I wonder what they'll be allowed to surveil without a warrant as it is the state police that would be able to use these to surveil public lands.
A waste of taxpayer money if they are not used.
Does this mean someone from the City of Gadsden wasted taxpayer money?
$150,000 of our Federal Tax Dollars for something not needed and never used, and we wonder why our Government is in the red...
Well, that was money well spent. Not even used.
A good example of the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing!
