President Obama signs Executive Order allowing for control over all US resources

Obama's Order sets forth as its rationale that "the United States must have an industrial and technological base capable of meeting national defense requirements and capable of contributing to the technological superiority of its national defense equipment in peacetime and in times of national emergency." It goes on in Section 103 C to authorize the President, "in the event of a potential threat to the security of the United States, to take actions necessary to ensure the availability of adequate resources and production capability, including services and critical technology, for national defense requirements." The task of advising is assigned, in Section 104 to "the National Security Council and Homeland Security Council, in conjunction with the National Economic Council," which "shall make recommendations to the President on the use of authorities under the Act."

I gave it a thumbs up because if people think they can govern themselves in time of emergency why haven't they done it yet here in the US. Because some of us really on the government to solve our problems when in fact we can solve them ourselves.

We do have 3 branches of government--and if either or both of the other two have concerns, then they'll take action. Problem solved. Anyone saying this is anything other than a routine battening down the hatches in case of, for example, a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, is simply trying to stir the pot.

Anyone wanting to discuss deliberately alarmist hypotheticals regarding gun-ownership is also...trying to stir the pot.

With all due respect the article states, "On March 16th, President Obama signed a new Executive Order which expands upon a prior order issued in 1950 for Disaster Preparedness, and gives the office of the President complete control over all the resources in the United States in times of war or emergency."
New executive order which expands..........last I checked we have 3 branches of government, and for good reason.

Sounds a little Totalitarian to me, but I wouldn't want a repeat of the way Katrina was handled had something equivelant happened in my State. Could there be a reason he signed the Bill other than he's just gone completely mad and want's to rule the world like Pinky and the Brain?
