Hmm, lets review the bill for cause and effect. An officer attempts to lawfully arrest an individual. Said individual "believes" officer is trying to effect an illegal arrest. Individual attempts to kill officer. Anyone want to guess what happens next?? Officer kills individual? Responding officers kill individual? This is a bad law for everyone. This law endagers the cops and the citizens. Cops will be suing citizens. Cops and citizens will be needlessly injured and killed. Defense attornys will have a field day because anyone who assaults a cop can claim that he/she "believed" the arrest was illegal. All I can say is WOW.
Bump ajsdaddy! There are those who Serve and Protect, there are LE supporters, and then there are ultra liberal left wing anti law enforcement types( trolls) who are afraid of anyone with authority over them.
Wartman, what little you know of law enforcement. It's ok you will be safe from "tough guys" like me as long as you stay locked away on your computer attempting to belittle our very honorable profession. Don't forget to ask your mommy to fix you a sandwich and bring you a juicebox while you peruse the internet trying to find anti-leo articles. Hey and here is another suggestion. Next time you need one of us to stand behind feel free not to call. I'm quite certain society will not miss you.
Holy !@#$!!!!!! I pray none of my states legislature jumps on this bus. We always have to have a reason to enter in Montana. If we get it wrong we pay for the damages and may lose our cert. With this we could lose our lives.
I'll be glad ajsdaddy. What department you work for? I was only adding a some critical analysis because Robocop seemed to have mis-understood the article because he stated that you did have the right resist. He was right that people DID (past tense) have that right. The court chose to ignore the 700+ year tradition of being able to resist and through that idea out. The people were rightly mad about having a 700+ year old right taken away and that is why this law sailed though the state house. I'd say don't shoot the messenger but I got a feeling your the tuff guy type to shoot him, plant drugs on him and then say he tried to steal your gun. Just let me know where i can find you. Ill be sure to respect your Authoritaaaay.
Oh my! An anti-leo psuedo lawyer amongst our ranks! I am shaking in my boots! Tell you what wartman, come on down to my jurisdiction and feel like you don't wish to submit to my lawful commands. We will have a fantastic time going round and round! After you pick up your teeth please feel free to sue ok?
Does this mean that the Cali cop who got caught messing with the underage police explorer was criminal scum because he did not submit to a lawful arrest? He should have just submitted and sued later right? A little reading comprehension is in order here Robocop. While it was always understood that you could resist an illegal arrest (going back before our own country to English common law) this was tested in the mentioned court case and the court decided that, no people do not have that right. Everyone knows that court ruling was BS and that is why this law is being passed so that the next time something like this happens some poor guy will not have his life ruined over it. If your just supposed to submit to the illegal arrest and the courts say you can sue afterwards, what happens when an "internal investigation" clears them and in court they claim qualified/sovereign immunity? How are you supposed to redress your grievances? If there is not a civil (court) way to settle problems we may be facing a decline back to vigilantism and violence where if a cop did something wrong to you, you would have to settle it with him physically.

crazy proposed law. I certainly hope tht the legislators have enough sense that they wouldn't pass it.
