Now ain't this just grand.A vehicle, containing possible auto theft suspects is nintentionally driven toward two uniformed Police officers with the intent to kill them. One of the officers is struck while the other officer fires into said vehilce intending to cease said attempt at motor vehicle homicide and a person is killed.WHAT,the grand jury FAILS to indict the driver?????In every jurisdiction I ever worked and /or heard of the driver is responsible for the actioins of said vehicle and the occupants of same.A panel of citizens (CIVILIAN) whom ,of course has no concept of police work, police procedures, whatsoever is bent on crucifying said officer who is guilty of attempting to save his and his partners life. The local N.A.A,C,P, head says he backs fireing of sais officer but admits he has NOT read said report. How everloven brilliant is this??In essence what you have in this sad town is a group of citizens empaneled on the Grand Jury and some citizens board who are bound and determined to fry a cop no matter what the circumstances OBVIOUSLY were.
Okay, let's look at the procedures taken. The Officer went through an after action review by Internal Affairs and these professionals thought he was justified after looking at all the evidence and leaving out all personal opinions. A civilian group judged that this Officer should be fired. Why? How much public opinion did they take into consideration? It should be none. The local DA and investigators also looked into it including all the evidence EXCEPT the personal opinions of the public, which is exactly what they are supposed to do and they said the Officer was justified. The actions of this Officer from what I have read also seems to be justified in being in fear of his life. Let him be!
The only thing I see that the Officials did wrong was release the other teen without charges. This kid was guilty of auto theft, Assault with intent to kill on a Police Officer, and because someone else was killed in the commission of this felony, he should face murder charges as well.
