On duty street officers connecting with kids in the community. Part of the job. Community Policing. Radio on ready to respond and fight crime. Granted DARE is not street duty police work but played football all the times with the kids which lead to good positive connections and conversations with the kids about life skills.
Stupid! This is called 'Community Interaction' and a great tool to get the community, especially the younger members, on the side of LE and away from crime! We do this with the DARE program and PAL's allowing the kids to see us as people willing to help them out and that we are just like them, and they can be just like us. Gives them a positive role model! Apparently those in charge see this as not allowing us to be anything but someone who is without emotion and a mindless robot who is to be avoided at all costs!
Imbeciles!
I just don't get it anymore. A comment in the article about you can dry hump but not throw a football, is indicative of the prevailing stupidity. But then look at who is Mayor.
I don't know about this. Cops getting involved with the community. You just never know where something like this could lead. It sounds subversive to me. Rough translation; get off their backs and let them do their jobs.
The officials that ordered this disapline have their heads so far up their backsides it would take days for light to reach their eyes. I hope that more rational thought will take place when these officers complaint is heard.
I honestly do not see a problem with officers tossing a footbal with a child in the community if they do it for a few minutes. They are interacting with the youth in a positive way. Only way I could see this to be a problem is if they failed to answer a call, which the article doesnt say if they did or didnt.

How ridiculous. I agree with "Gunns". As long as they are missing calls who cares if they toss the football for a short while.
