Fullerton Police department is having major problems at the moment. Two other officers are being charged with murder and manslaughter in the beating death of Kelly Thomas a homeless mentally ill man. This happen in July this summer and it has been all over the news here in Southern California. After when this happen the police chief went out on sick leave. There also a recall going on to get rid of the mayor and three city counsel members.
Turning off the recorder is a bad move. If you are doing the right thing you want a documentary of the events. The lawyers love this senerio, $$$$ and they get 40% of the pot of gold.
I usually try to side with the officer also but his own statements kill his defense. The only area that put a glimmer of belief in the officer is all the women knew each other and told their stories to each other. Not enough for me to favor the officer here though. I know there ae many baseless complaints of groping to take the attention away from the perp and if he is innocent he burried himself by no backup and turning off his recorder. Deserves to be fired, I believe he was doing as accused.
I try to side with the officer when any complaint... however, when there are so many complaints of the same type against an officer... his credibility tends to deminish...
Again I find myself having to say what a shame it is that one of our own makes us all look bad.The Police Dept. left the city wide open for legal action by reinstating this officer,especially following the initial investigation.It would be interesting what his Psych. profile may have revealed during the hireing process.
Normally I am very sceptical of reports of groping or inappropriate sexual remarks made to women by police as that is common complaint against for all of us BUT, in this case these are fairly reliable women and he has admitted turning off his recorder and not calling for back up when arresting females, not once? He not only needs to be fired, and well past time for that, but he also needs to be charged and allow the jury to find him guilty or not.
This guy is a damn disgrace!
Another officer who gave LE a black eye, and it could have been stopped long ago. The city will end up paying through the nose over this, and it should. Colossal FAIL !!!!
The department failed badly in taking corrective action against this officer. He should have been charged and fired long ago. The DA's office failed in not bringing forth those charges. This bad officer should not be allowed to resign, he should be fired.

Troubling to say the least;
The officer screwed himself by
turning off his recorder, a definite no-no.

The city definitely did not think this through before they brought this bad seed back to duty. He needs to be charged.
