bump LonnaNJ and Copper380. It stings to read it, but it's true. You can't criticize all responders all the time no matter what, then shrug off the low morale. You're either working to make our town's safer, or you're not. You're either working to improve performance and accountability in your town and department, or you're not. If the pols we're putting in want to grandstand in front of the cameras when they should be helping emergency responders, then perhaps we need to think about cleaning house in November.
As for the sheepdog analogy, hmmm... I'm not sure I like the description of Americans as sheep, as some prefer to be. Land of the free, home of the brave.

Big Bump Copper380
The sheepdog is expected to guard the flock, and doesn't expect to be "treat trained" for doing so, he knows his place, his duties. However, The occassional "good boy" head pat of Recognition makes the sheepdog feel Prideful and makes him feel honored to do his job. September 11th Sheepdogs and Sheep alike went way beyond the call of duty, many died in the process. I can't think of one good reason the sheepdogs should be leashed, they should be thrown a bone, and have a chance to congregate and mourn with the rest of the flock. 10 years to plan this memorial, and the results closely resemble an unorganized preschool graduation.

THIS IS A BIG STEAMING PILE OF POLITICAL S--T!!!!!!!! Let's face it, the first responders have to admit that if we wanted jobs where we are recognized and patted on the back for a job well done than we would not have chosen a profession in public service. Although, when it is deserved and right it should be done and this is the time!! How many times can you yell at or smack the guard dog on the nose for doing it's job, barking and trying to protect it's people, before it does not bark or defend anymore. The guard dog does not expect praise for doing it's job and even accepts the smack on the nose from time to time but a occasional pat on the head with a "good dog" keeps the guard doog on it's toes, doing it's job to the best of it's abilities. Once again, the sheep rest while the sheep dog waits quietly in the background.......ever watching, ever waiting.....to protect the flock, then to be forgotten after the wolf is chased away.

Before this turns into a parade of political finger pointing, grunting, shots fired and begins to sway left to right then starts to morph into an Obama's only really there to buy a bean pie conspiracy theory, I would like to say a little something about the organization that actually did plan this event, they suck. They had 10 YEAR window of time to orchestrate a way better Event/Memorial. Seems it's easier to formulate a plan to accommodate over 1 million people that pack into time $quare, and Patronize the City for hours. hmmm, it almost sounds to me like it's money over morals, or a big security risk. as for a security risk, My New Yorkers really aren't that scared, just more cautious. East Coasters refuse to let the terrorist obtain there goal. I think the only one who should be scared is the Officials that said the air quality was ok, keep working. That myth was debunked very expeditiously by the USCDC, before the "it's Ok" announcement and most of the city officials knew it. Hmmmm... Some first responders, LE, FD, Civilian volunteers, SAR K9's that didn't die, are living day to day with ailments such as Cancer, lung disease, serious respiratory problems that were linked to the cocktail of toxins in the WTC dust and air. Medical examiners proved this by doing autopsy's of the responders that died after being over exposed to the site. Tower 1 & 2 and the other collapsed buildings made most turn away in disbelief upon seeing the devestation, the pictures of the missing, the makeshift graves, but it didn't stop These men and women. They deserve HELLA better for their Brave Heroic efforts, they deserve to be A BIG PART in this, not denied of having a proper visit with the families of the victims as some still seek comfort, closure by meeting the responders. This is Unbelievable! God Bless our first responders, this story is unbelievable.

The 90,000 or so firefighters, police officers, and civilian volunteers who rushed toward the burning twin towers are not invited to the ceremonies on Sept. 11.
Mayor Bloomberg confirmed that the day would be reserved for victims' families. "Family members only will be allowed to walk onto the plaza, look at their loved ones' names, look down into the voids," he said, referring to the reflecting pools in the footprints of the two towers. Bloomberg added, "The first day, it's reserved for those family members who lost somebody on 9/11."
Bloomberg makes me sick trying to act like he cares about the victims...........he should tell them about his support for that damn mosque!! And who wants Obama there?? I'm sure he's practicing his "so sorry" face for the family members. BARF!! The first responders should be in front of the line. So many of them have become so sick, yet they ran in to help. Forgetting them is a slap in the face.

Survivors and family members weren't invited, either. We should stage our own event for friends and family of those who lost their lives.

Bunch of crap by politicians who only wish to be seen and get re-elected. They say only those invited are those who have lost family members? Do they not understand that we police, firefighters, and paramedics are ALL family and have lost so many of our brothers and sisters? Additionally these brave men and women were not lost simply because they worked in the building or were visiting or had an appointment or just using the restroom. OUR Brothers and Sisters were killed rushing IN the building trying to save the victims! Additionally many of these brave individuals are STILL suffering not only the mental strains of what happened and what they saw, but from physical injuries that they received because of their bravery. They need to rethink this insult.
