Glad to learn that this fella got his job back. I hope the PD jumped all over that bus company.

Great to see he will be reinstated. The reason given for his dismissal was a real stretch.Brings to mind the old saw"no good deed goes unpunished"

Ted Nugent said it best: "Common sense is neither common nor sensible." This whole situation proves that, hey?

Glad he got reinstated and yes I agree, a public apology is in order for everyone concerned, including the police department. Don't hold your breath.

Apparantly some legal eagle got to the employer and mentioned the words, "lawsuit for wrongful discharge."

There ya go RComer1 and all others who went on record in support of the transportation company....... He got reinstated with full back pay and benefits and his record wiped clean of the incident. Hopefully he will get more. What he should get, is a letter of apology and an acknowledgement that the company over reacted when they fired him...... but we all know that will never happen. Unfortunately, what ever the agreement was, the wording will likely include the disclaimer, "without admitting guilt." YEAH..... WHAT-EVER!!!!!!! I think that when something like this happens that is just so over the top ridiculous, the company should be forced to publicly admit that they SCREWED UP AND OVER-REACTED!!!!!!

There is what is known as the letter of the law which is this "written word" as you call it...... Others call it "policy." Policy is written for those who, as dinapooh pointed out, abuse their positions and take family or friends for unauthorized rides. These are the "unauthorized passengers" that this said policy is referring to........ NOT POLICE OFFICERS WHOSE IMMEDIATE SAFETY AND LIVES WERE BEING ENDANGERED!!!!! This situation called for a "LETTER OF THE LAW" mentality and the actions of Daw should have been lauded as heroic and meritorious. So if the transportation company doesn't do it, at least let it be said that we at PL applaud his life saving actions.

I think its ridiculous when "officials" (by that I mean school officials) pick and choose when the rules do and dont apply. I have children who have rode a bus with a bus driver who would absolutely stick strictly to the rules until she wanted to bend or break them and when we complained we were told that students werent considered reliable witnesses. I think what the bus driver in this case did was commendable. We all have to help eachother out. Those kind of rules were put in place for morons who want to take their family to sports games on those buses, which Ive heard of happening here. It shouldnt apply when officers, who risk their own lives to save ours daily, need our help.

Seems the Contracted Bus Company had the mindset of those that ride the Yellow Bus. Finally something awakened their dulled senses, and they came to the realization that the drivers actions did not pose any security risk to passengers, hence no insubordination. There should be more like people with the intentions to exhibit good will towards men. George Paw will be reinstated on August 17th.

" Should we negate what is written to protect not only ourselves but those we work for simply because of emotion or in this case a uniform? "

    YES!!!!

and after viewing your profile I understand. I am paid to make decisions, I have discretion and policy is a guideline. I realize in your line of work you are not so free to make decisions.

@Copper380 Compassion is beautiful. Love concurs all. Most people would have probably done the same thing as to assist these officers including me if it was warranted. Should we negate what is written to protect not only ourselves but those we work for simply because of emotion or in this case a uniform? I am glad that this driver stopped and helped, but would he have done it for anybody? As sad as it is this may be a case of preferential treatment. Catering to an unfortunate event if you will simply because they were officers. The driver is not a hero but a servant. It was mighty neighborly in all due respect though, something that is becoming lost. I do understand that the average Joe would be left stranded until somebody that carries protection of some form would stop. Pat the guy on the back and wish him good luck!

Common sense would dictate that this company will have SEVERE difficulties when it comes to their license and compliance inspections. They should all be for following the letter of the law, no matter how vague or mundain>>>

Skoolcop, we know the transportation company effected Mr. Daws' termination. However, the policies of transportation companies are not wholly unaffected by the districts upon which they depend. Some intervening on Mr. Daws' behalf was called for. Evidently the district did not choose to spotlight his actions as merit worthy.
