Woman Arrested for Groping TSA Agent

Woman Arrested for Groping TSA Agent

Yukari Mihamae, 61, is seen in this undated booking photo in Phoenix provided by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

Associated Press

July 18, 2011

PHOENIX — Authorities say a Colorado woman who allegedly groped a female Transportation Security Administration agent at Phoenix’s international airport is facing a felony count of sexual abuse.

Phoenix police say 61-year-old Yukari Mihamae is accused of grabbing the left breast of the unidentified TSA agent Thursday afternoon at an airport checkpoint.

TSA staff say Mihamae refused to be go through passenger screening and became argumentative before she squeezed and twisted the agent’s breast with both hands.

Police were called and say Mihamae admitted grabbing the TSA agent and continued to argue with officers before she was arrested.

Maricopa County jail officials say Mihamae was released from custody Friday. They couldn’t immediately provide any information about her case status.

Phoenix TV station KSAZ says Mihamae lives in Longmont, Colo., and is self-employed.

I love how people throw the forth amendment and the bill of rights out there where it does not apply, there is an argument but it still does not apply. As for the charges being dropped?!! She broke the law...PERIOD! just because you are not happy with a situation does not give you the right to break the law in protest. Supporting this women is a bad standard to set. The airlines are private companies regulated by the govt. and free travel is not limited to air travel. Don't like the searches....DON'T FLY, you are free to walk, ride a horse, ride a bike, drive....ETC.... I don't know about anyone else but if my family is flying I want to ensure they get home safe. Aplane is a great tool for the terrorists because they can kill so many at one time. Why do I have a feeling that if another plane is used in an attack that more than a few bitching about TSA's proceedures would then bitch about TSA not doing enough to stop the killing of 300 or so people on a single plane. Like it or not, the near loss of our commercial airlines after 9/11 nearly killed our economy. Another such attack could completely cripple our country and our economy. Look at the big picture....If another attack happens with the use of a commercial plane......you think the economy is bad now?

Besides, you think TSA Agents LIKE searching these people? Think about some of the people you have searched that you did not feel cleann after......now multiply that by thousands. Many people are not clean creatures.

Top_Cat, sometimes you make excellent comments but this time I think you are WAY off. I think you are speaking from the heart instead of the facts.

    The magnitude of pain isn't
definitve of the act of assault.
If someone spits in your face,
it won't hurt, cause a bruise, laceration
or swelling BUT it is an assault.

Am I the only one thats wondering why she used both hands? o.O
Anyway, this is an unfortunate case of common stupidity. What she did was horrible, I agree. But at the end of the day, is the TSA agent involved hurt in anyway? She probably went home and laughed about it. But I agree with the punishment, there are rules for a reason.

bump cops1521 I agree 100% very true. Im not sayng this is right, but this is how I operate. If I was working and doing my job giving respect to people and they are giving me nothing but crap. Then believe it when I tell you they are getting right back. I have zero tolerance for disrespectful ignorant people who believe the world revolves around them. I understand people have bad days, and as a LEO's we run in it to it daily, however it's still not a right to show their ass and act like a douche bag.

One other thing to remember, you post the negative things that have happened, but I can guarantee you things and people have been caught, it just doesn't get reported to the media. I know of numerous incidents where things have happened at airports and other places where potential terrorists or "people with ties to terrorism" have quietly been arrested and the news never gets it for a variety of reasons.

Actually Topcat, most people I talk to don't care about the TSA, they don't fly either because they never have unless they had to because they are ADRAID to fly and always were. Yes there are people who are afraid to fly. Others don't fly because it is too expensive. Maybe you have spoke with people who don't fly because of TSA, I never have. You said the airlines were being decimated because of TSA, that's you're opinion, I happen to disagree. Actually thinking about it everytime I fly my flights are always full...guess those people aren't offended by the TSA. As I said, this is one of those where we will just have to agree to disagree. Again, I have never had anyone from TSA be rude to me, actually I have had them thank me for being polite and understanding to them....even when I have had to go through additional security. You are right it is a privilege not a right, which means that you don't have to fly. Don't want to go through security don't fly. Personally, when I fly I want to be sure I'm on a plane that has been screened, just like I want to be on a plane that works mechanically. I don't complain when I am screened and I don't complain when my plane has been cancelled for mechanical problems...which by the way has happened more than when I have been put through extra screening. Both mean that when I get on the plane there is a better chance that I will arrive safely. Is it a 100% guarentee/ Non, just like it isn't a 100% guarentee when I walk through security lines at the courthouse, etc. There are people of all raceses, nationalities, ages, and either gender thathave bad intentions. Again, let me repeat what I posted as did Patriot, that many of the TSA employees rea retired LEOs and military members. When you criticize TSA because of a few individuals, you are criticizing the retired LEOS and military members as well. Just like with LEOs, while there a few bad seeds in Law Enforcement, the majority are good at what they do and are embarrassed at the bad seeds. It is the same with the TSA. Just like I tell people to spend one day doing the job of a LEO and you will understand what they have to put up, I say do the job of a TSA Agent for one day and see whether you change your mind. I know I won't change your mind on this and that's fine, but you will not change my mind either. Doesn't mean either one of us is wrong, it just means we have different opinions and experiences.

Topcat, airlines are a business is right,
but the who controls the skies,
THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS.
The airline business wasn't and isn't decimated because of the TSA.
THIS WOMAN DIDN"T HAVE THE RIGHT TO ASSAULT THIS TSA AGENT
nor does she have the right to board a plane until she's satisfied
the pre-existing conditions that accompany boarding the plane.
If this woman wanted to protest, she should have simply chose
another means to travel home and became a active constituent
by communicating her displeasure with the TSA to her
    Congress member or US Senator.
Just so you know, I have proudly served,
just like My Uncle, my neighbor and my grandfather
and we were all honorably discharged upon our ETS date.
It is a privilege to fly as a passenger on a commercial airline
just as it is a privilege to drive a car, legally.
I bet that you would have a different view if this TSA agent
was a woman family member of yours. Furthermore, an LEO charged the
perp, not the TSA agent so everyone here that's blaming the
TSA for overcharging the woman, you're blaming them in error.
Like cops1521 has stated, Timothy McVeigh was a terrorist AND
an honorably discharged veteran. Americans are actively being recruited to work
for Al-Qaeda (John Walker Lynd) and ask any service member who's
served in Afghanistan or Iraq and see if they become complacent when
an elderly person or young child approaches them.

TopCat, the airlines have NOT been decimated because of TSA searches. They have been decimated because first of all the planes that flew planes into building...sorry I don't consider them gang bangers. The aitrlines have been decimated because of their own actions as well as the economy.

Like Patriot94, says, many of these Agents are retired from the Military or retired LEOs. It must be me, while I don't fly on a regular basis I do fly at least three times a year and have assisted my elderly Mother get on a flight. Not once have I had an issue with any of the TSA Agents even though I have seen them put through the ringer by people before me in line. I treat them with respect and have no problem if they want to put me through the strictest security search. I even prepare my Mother in case they have to do that with her. They have always been respectful to me and my Mother.

As a reminder, when those of you say why look at an elderly person, there was a recent arrest of a male that made himself look like an elderly male. Most of you said that even you would have fallen for the disguise. In addition, to think terrorists won't use a child or elderly person is naive. Ask those serving overseas if they trust every elderly person or child that approaches them. Just because they haven't done anything yet like that here doesn't mean they won't at some time. In addition, terrorists are not just middle eastern people. Timothy McVeigh was a terrorist and was not middle eastern.

Also Al Queida has enlisted Americans...remember the name Brian Goodet (spelling?), what about John Walker Lynd. Just as LEOs say the don't trust anyone they come in contact with no matter race, sex, or age then why do we expect those doing security to be able to look at someone and be able to tell if they are terrorists, just a pain in the ass or a regular flyer. Just this past week I flew from St Louis to Chicago to Rochester. In St Louis there was an individual (okder white male) that was watched closely by TSA. The reason I know this was his behavior. I spotted him immediately as did other passengers. We were thrilled when our flight was cancelled and we were put on a different plane than him. We all commented that we felt for those who had to fly with him. I said unless he continued to act the way he did because he may be staying at the Chicago PD Hotel instead of flying anywhere. I can guarantee that all of you LEOs would have been watching him not only at the airport but if he flew on your plane., As I said earlier, like you guys, I don't trust anyone and that is even when I fly. I certainly wouldn't want their job, because they make a mistake it could mean several peoples lives, but if they question someone or put them through stringent security people scream that they are infringing on their rights and groping them.

Also, remember it wasn't TSA who charged the woman in the article with the Felony, it was a LEO, so you aren't just questioning TSA, you are questioning the LEO. I am not saying they are LEOs, but as I said as did Patriot94 that many of these Agents are retired military and retired LEOs the very people you speak proudly of rightfully so.

Often you hear people saying that when a LEO searches them, they are groping them...when the LEO is actually doing their job and ensuring that they are safe as is the community. What would you do if you tried to search someone and they reached out and groped you.

This is one of those where we all have to agree to disagree as those who don't like the TSA won't change their minds and those of us who support the TSA won't change our minds.

I especially want to repeat what I started out with since that is what I was really responding to. The airlines are NOT decimated because of TSA, if they are decimated because they keep raising their prices on everything and doing away with "frills" soon they will be charging to use the restroom. They do not raise their prices because of TSA.

Food for thought…I’m speaking about the airport I worked at I don’t know how it is anywhere else but 90% of my ex coworkers are either ex-military, retired military, retired law enforcement, ex law enforcement, or a combination. Keep that in mind when you pass judgment about their education or background.

    @Roocop33_ Read my post again, I never asserted that TSA employees are LEO's;
I asserted that flying on a commercial airline is not a right,it's a privilege much like
obtaining a driver's license. The two have conditions which must be met in order
for a person to do either one. The groping of the TSA agent was unwarranted,
unwanted, and unsolicited by the TSA agent. The perp groped the agent only because
she doesn't agree with the TSA standards before stepping onto a commercial plane.
Forgiving the perp here is synonymous with forgiving
a perp who for no reason other than protest, assaults an LEO.

Since I’m EX TSA Officer I feel the need to shed light on a few things. I don’t know if some of y’all are arguing for arguing sake but I’m again shocked.
TSA is a Federal entity they have been around for eight plus years all this talk about violation of Constitutional rights? If you feel your rights are being threatened get yourself a lawyer and challenge the GOVT I’m pretty sure you will end up wasting your money and embarrassed with a new found lesson of the American legal system. I’m sure the GOVT has thought of the legal ramifications and has the time and resources to prove THEIR case.
If I remember correctly wasn’t there outrage after 9/11? The American public DEMANDED the system be fixed. Granted TSA is a band aid and it takes everyone to fix but still it’s there and is trying. For those that think I should read up on my Constitutional rights, I suggest they re- read what I posted. TSA doesn’t restrict your right to travel at all. You have choices in everything you do in America that’s the beauty of her. Don’t like TSA don’t fly commercial buy or rent your own plane, take a bus, maybe a train, or you may drive yourself, take boat, walk, maybe you can Gump it out and run across the US. But to get on a commercial plane there are standards that must be met. Your choice!! Really big ups to Crowfeeder, and BN Thank you
As for the groping and invasive of personal space, really? TSA is mandated to “clear” when I say clear it can happen by visual search or pat down ANY and EVERY alarm whether or not if they know it’s a zipper or underwire to a bra. Again they get tested by people that will TAKE their JOB away from them no questions asked. If you’re stubborn enough to come to the airport and walk through a metal detector wearing excessive amounts of metal then guess what you are going to get touched on why? Because when you go to hand held your zipper is going to alarm and the rivets on your jeans and or your underwire is going to alarm and that is after you take out your keys and pocket change.
And if TSA is unconstitutional where is griping when you walk into a court house? It’s a federal checkpoint (for those that aren’t LEO’s on duty) because down here I have to surrender my weapon and get patted down when I’m not on duty.
I may be a little sensitive about TSA for that I am sorry, I worked hard to do that job and hated every minute of it, plus I still have friends that are busting their ass dealing with this crazy selfish insensitive think they are entitled American Public we serve.
Thank you for your time I am for sure getting off this soap box the music has stopped.
