Officer Dies When Squad Cars Collide

Alhambra, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say one police officer was killed and another was injured after their cruisers collided at a Southern California intersection.
Police Lt. Edith Lopez says the crash happened early Sunday as both Alhambra officers were responding to a possible robbery at a downtown business in their city nine miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
Lopez says paramedics rushed the two men to a hospital, where 26-year-old Officer Ryan Stringer died from his injuries.
Police described the condition of the injured officer only as “stable.” His name has not been released.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision. Police and the CHP have given no further details on the cause or circumstances of the crash.
