Well, I know people who in their 60's have lost their ability to drive safely as well as those who are well into their 80's and even a 90 yr old plus who are pretty good drivers. What we must do is to be able to judge this ability fairly and remove that privilege when it becomes necessary. I am going to withhold judgement as I do not personally know this man's ability but suspect, based on the age, that this may be a factor and is certainly worth looking into. It does not matter if this man is a very important civic leader or not, the question is was it his fault or the mechanical fault of the vehicle and if it was his fault, was this something that suddenly occurred or something that was noticeable in the past. I'll let the investigators figure it out.

bump ssu459, nothing negative to be said. It's true and we all know it, don't like it, but hey, such is life.

nothing negative here, Dave. its one of the hardest things to do is give up that small piece of independence but if it makes the road safer then i am taking the keys from mom just like i did granny. with their permission of course. :)

Huge bump to my friend DALLASCRANE.What is an 85 year old auxilary chief doing driving a piece of city equipment.I know, I'm expecting a great deal of negative feedback.I can assure you, however that any of we officers who have ever been on the job can assure you that with age ones driving skills diminish.Simply a fact of life we all must face.

RIP. A lawsuit coming down the road when the lawyers all rush in for their piece of the pie.
