Collision Kills One Deputy, Injures Another

MANVEL, Texas—One Brazoria County Sheriff’s deputy was killed and another severely injured Sunday evening after crashing into a pickup truck on Highway 6 in Brazoria County, according to officials.
The two deputies were traveling in a patrol car west on Highway 6 at FM 1128 when they crashed into a full-sized Chevy truck attempting to make a left turn into a Chevron gas station around 9:30 p.m.
Deputies said the officers had the green light and the pickup truck driver did not yield the right of way.
The impact caused the Chevy to flip over and land on its roof and both vehicles were mangled in the crash.
The deputy who was driving and the two occupants in the Chevy truck were all airlifted to the hospital with severe injuries.
The deputy on the passenger side was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Trooper Standifer of the Texas Department of Public Safety said even though the crash hits close to home, any loss of life makes the job difficult.
“Anytime someone loses their life, it is extremely difficult to me. The fact that these individuals were in law enforcement, there’s no difference when I come across the scene,” said Trooper Standifer. “Usually when I come up close, you can kind of tell when there’s been some serious injury or loss of life and when I get that feeling, it doesn’t matter if they are wearing a uniform or not.”
The cause of the crash is under investigation and officials said a state crash team will do a scale diagram to plot out the points of the crash.
