PALM BEACH, Fla. — A 22-year-old woman who jumped into the Intracoastal Waterway while fleeing police is being held in jail on $3,000 bond.

A judge ordered Monday that Aja Nicole Simes be held on bond on a felony charge for fleeing and eluding police. She was also charged with misdemeanors for giving a false name, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting an officer.

It wasn’t immediately known if she has an attorney.

Police say she fled when an officer stopped her for having an obscured license plate. She crashed into a fence at the Palm Beach Country Club and set took off on foot. A tip led officers to the bridge, where Simes dove off the bridge Sunday morning.

A Palm Beach marine officer pulled her out.
