CHICAGO – An off-duty Chicago police officer dressed up as a clown for a South Side fundraiser shot and killed a teen who held him at gunpoint tonight after the event, authorities said.
The officer, who is assigned to the Near North police district, was in his clown outfit for a fundraiser for a day-care business. The event, attended by a group of 50 children, was near West 87th Street and South Damen Avenue.
At 10:10 p.m. after the event ended, the officer went to his car and a teen approached him, asking him for money, authorities said. When the officer said he had no money, the teen pulled a gun on him, authorities said.
During a struggle with the teen, the officer grabbed hold of the gun, opened fire and killed him.
The officer sustained minor injuries, according to a release from police News Affairs.
A weapon was recovered from the scene.
One person was also taken into custody.
The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.

damn that guy was a bloody mess after he was shot!!! One more for the good guys. Enjoy your dirt nap you sorry piece of trash! The cop should've blown up a balloon then tied it into the shape of handcuffs and put them on the guy. That would've been awesome!

@msjaylbee.... It's a coincidence you mention that story about fayetteville. I've lived in NC for a while now and have been applying everywhere in the state but Fayetteville is one place I haven't because of the stories I've heard. On the story, good job to the officer. Don't be fooled by the suit.

Did the kid think that a clowns wallet is like a clowns car, things just keep coming out? :D - Good for the officer.

SO glad the officer is OK; best wishes for a speedy recovery with the minor injuries. And to the perp who picked the wrong clown to mess with, you should've known: "Homey don't PLAY that!"

@USLawman1983--I am a civilian, but I can certainly see what you mean. I have lived in New York State for most of my life--NEVER had a problem--went to Fayetteville, NC on vacation and two thugs demanded my purse and the car keys--they got NEITHER. They pulled out a gun, when my sister told them that she also had a gun, they ran. It's comical now, but if their gun had been real and if my sister had really had a gun--the story would have been different. I'm glad the officer won that battle--I'm sorry that the crook decided to risk his life for a few dollars. God forgive me, but there's one less criminal on our streets.
