CHICAGO – Police shot a man and three officers suffered minor injuries Sunday near Father’s Day celebrations at a South Side park, officials said.

The man was critically wounded after he allegedly shot at police in the Grand Crossing Park at 76th and Ingleside, police said. The officers, who were not shot, were taken to a local hospital in good condition, fire officials said. It is unclear how they were injured.

About 6:25 p.m., officers were in the area when shots were fired in Grand Crossing Park, according to police, who did not give details.

But Pat Camden, spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police Chicago Lodge No. 7, said crowds of people were running from the park, where a man in a white T-shirt was holding a 9mm gun. “[Officers] yelled, ‘Police! Drop your gun!’ ” Camden said. “Instead he fired a shot at the police.”
