Officer's Missing Firearm Located, Returned

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – A Salt Lake City police officer was breathing a sigh of relief Friday after his lost and loaded duty firearm was recovered.
The officer had lost the matte black Glock semi-automatic handgun on Wednesday after leaving the weapon on the trunk of his car and then driving off.
Details on where the gun was found and the circumstances of its return were not immediately available Friday, but police spokeswoman Lara Jones confirmed that, “Thanks to a concerned citizen, the missing firearm has been returned.”
On Wednesday, the officer — a veteran lawman who now faces a departmental review of the incident — drove from 700 South and 1050 West, got on Interstate 15 at 400 South and continued on to Woods Cross before realizing the weapon was gone.
Police had offered a $200 reward for return of the weapon. It was not clear Friday whether the citizen who returned the firearm accepted the offer.
The Salt Lake Tribune will provide additional detail on this development as it is released.

I know this officer is more than happy the citizen return the firearm. Now comes the review board. Better plan on some time off, without pay.

Very lucky the weapon was returned. Now will be the source of many jokes to come and probably the recipient of some time on the beach. Hopefully his luck will hold and he will not be fired…

Again! What is with TKOOP and his anti-cop attitude, he should not be one PL if all he is going to do is attack LEOs!!!

Each time I put on my sheriff's uniform I double check to make sure I have everything for duty. A word of advice to all my fellow officers, never never remove that weapon from your holster unless you are in a life or death situation.

First and most important the weapon was found and returned.
Second let the jokes and clowning begin because everyone here knows this LEO is in for it at his or her department.
Third to TKoop you made your comment about OUR profession all I am going to say is if you do not like OUR profession then try calling a crack head instead of 911 the next time you need some help instead of calling on OUR profession.

Why did he have his weapon out in the first place? That would help determine why he might have drove off without it. Then again, why set it down on the trunk of your car and not put it back in your holster.
