Obama Invites Anti-Cop Rapper to White House

WASHINGTON, DC – Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr., more commonly known as the rapper “Common”, was invited by First Lady Michelle Obama among other poets to celebrate American poetry and prose on Wednesday, May 11, thedailycaller.com reports.

Lynn’s divisive lyrics about gun violence, shooting police, and even for burning the president (who at the time was George W. Bush), make him a controversial choice for the White House. “Burn a Bush cos for peace he no push no button,” he raps on a YouTube video with more than 800,000 views.

He is also a known supporter of convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, according to the examiner.com. Abu-Jamal was a member of the Black Panther Party, and was sentenced in 1981 for killing a Philadelphia police officer.

Coincidentally, President Obama and the rapper/poet Lynn are members of Trinity United Church of Christ, reports the New Hampshire Journal. Additionally, Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008 came under fire when the church’s Reverend Jeremiah Wright made several charged sermons in support of Obama.

“Several of Wright’s sermons caused a firestorm of controversy during the 2008 presidential campaign due to their caustic, racially charged, anti-American tones. One sermon in particular caused Obama a severe headache – the one in which he blamed America for Osama bin Laden’s terrorist attacks. ‘America’s chickens are coming home to roost,’ he said.” – New Hampshire Journal

At the time, Obama defended and then rejected Wright, whereas Lynn came to the reverend’s defense.

Lynn also named his daughter after Assata Shakur, another Black Panther party member. In 1977, Shakur was found guilty of first-degree murder and fled to Cuba after escaping prison, reports the New Hampshire Journal.

At the White House event, Lynn and other artists will participate in an afternoon workshop educating children.

The AP reports that other artists invited to attend are Elizabeth Alexander, Billy Collins, Rita Dove, Kenneth Goldsmith, Alison Knowles, Aimee Mann, and Jill Scott.

hey lawmantukes, if common had done this same poem at the WH then i would've been like aww heck nawl...but he didn't. that poem was a few years back too. the man himself has come out in support of law enforcement. he has no reason to lie!
i can speak for myself in saying that PEOPLE CAN CHANGE. two years ago i wasn't saved. since then my music, speech, job performance, relationships, etc has changed. for the better.
if you are gonna believe his POEM, why not believe his WORDS again when he says otherwise.
if any of y'all have ever worked a part-time as security at a concert, you know that often what they perform doesn't quite match up to who they are. sometimes its a show. they use us to protect them in their video shoots from their adoring fans...and pay us very well!!! our minimum for part-time gigs is $22/hr.
    love & respect guys/gals!

bump bill...i love a good discussion...maybe too much
donna, yes i gotta love you. love endures long. i have educated myself. it says "study to show yourself approved". i love and respect each and eveyone of y'all on here. i can'y hate you and love God. as for this subject though...
i have listened to Common in the past when i just listened to the beats and disregarded words. i have seen him grow as an artist and become more & more enlightened. what i have never seen is him as a anti cop/cop killer. in his poem he refers to how some folks feel about corrupt cops. at least thats what i draw from it. even then it doesn't define him as a person. he also says "no time for that" and moves on from that drama.
to be clear, i don't play his music now because i don't listen to secular music for the most part anymore
and about seeing blue...folks i see life...regardless of color...i serve and protect regardless of color...not all of us are right and y'all know this...
one week i was eating breakfast on the morning watch with officer #$%#@ and the next week he was resigning...i had no idea he wasn't following the rules! we had gone on several calls together but he had bones in the closet...
snhadley, i have explained in another thread that my dept won't allow us to state where we work. i gotta follow that rule because i love my job. either way, even i gave you the "proof" the site calls for, my opinions wouldn't change
but it comes back to respect. yes, don't call people stupid or mention they have a small brain. no need for that...
i love discussions but gotta stay respectful...love y'all...be blessed

Blackgold, I would watch what you say about people being stupid, also no one has said it is a black thing, it is a respect thing and the POTUS by inviting this rapper/poet has slapped the faces of all law enforcement by having him there during this week. Any other week would not have been a problem. Why do you have to bring the race card into this?

Wow, a couple of idiots are stirring the pot and one is supposedly LE. Blackgold, Donnalynn is once again on time and on target with her assessment of you, now just go away! C13476, be careful, be very careful, I am passing your info on to two diferent agencies that I work very closely with and they are the United States Secret Service and Miami Field office of the FBI. These agencies don't take threats however vague they may be against OUR President. It appears you want attention NOW YOU HAVE IT! Wear it well! LAWMANTUKES,
well said and I totally agree. I love the internet it allows idoits and racist individuals to spew garbage and incite people. It also allows for thier identification and removal from society. Looks like some people engaged their typing before engaging what little they have as a brain! If the shoe fits whomever than so be it!

    SpencerStangz,

I can understand your point of view. Butt.!! In the intrest of decent and law abiding responsible tax paying citizens of these United States, I shall for one always defend the honor and sacrifice of the many brave warriors in uniform, that have made the ultimate sacrifice to our Nation in its defense against LAWLESSNESS and DEFEAT. The images that are expressed by the POTUS and seen by the citizens of this Nation and the World, are in its self a stark contrast to the vary fabric of which this Nation is founded upon. Make no mistake about it, this type of character (Common) has absolutely NO PLACE in the most powerful and respected Office in the world. By his own lyrics, this individual continues to express a criminal element and deep hatred for all of us who wear BLUE. I have expressed my Outrage as a warrior in Blue. And not as a particular race. And as my outstanding sister in Blue (DonnaLynn)just stated, we are labled as racist, then let it be so, inthat we only see BLUE........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

C14476 that comment was way out of line. You might want to remove it before you are removed from this site.

SpencerStangz, I disagree with your statement "I gotta love you" What happened to educating yourself and then making an informed statement? Try that out, it might enlighten you a bit. Remember God gave us a brain for a reason. You've got to stand for something or you will fall for anything. To many are falling for anything.

for the record, not all LEOs dislike our President. I respect him as I have respected all that came before him. Even if someone slights me or disrespects me, I must still show them respect. i read the comments on here and see a lot. Anger or outrage isn't a good look for anyone. While I don't know President Obama, Common, or any of you personally, I will always show you respect. I have arrested many people but even though I don't agree with their actions, I showed them respect. We may be in the same profession but that in no way means we all feel the same. Respect each other regardless of our beliefs. Most of y'all have little to no knowledge of Common other than what you have been told recently. Whatever happened to the totality of the circumstances? does one or two songs or poems define a person? how many other works has he done. even more recent works. like blackgold, i feel his poem referred to corrupt officers who abuse their authority. we all know they are out there. i don't want them killed but they make people dislike us more and more. after they do their dirt, we must then deal the aftermath. anywho, feel free to attack me again. i have no problem with anyone on this site. i gotta love you and i am always praying for you.

This is directed to blackgold - Your first comment shows your racisim. You threw out that card and it's old, torn and over used. The idiom used in your second comment is ridiculous... of course a hit dog will holler and we are reading your hollering. Why are you here? It's people like you who are the takers, users and abusers that expect everything for nothing that are pulling this country farther into that hell hole. You are right, we LEOs are racist, we can only see the color BLUE!

"c14476"..I would like to remind you that although we are mostly united in our expressed outrage, concerning the invite by the POTUS, we are non the less still LAW ENFORCEMENT..!!! And we don't participate in violence or unlawful acts against others, simply because we disagree. And further more, you are in a website made-up primarily of POLICE OFFICERS...!!!! Therefore, any such expressed thoughts of the nature of your last post, could and should be used against you accordingly.

Tred lightly, and think before you spout.
