Obama Invites Anti-Cop Rapper to White House

US First Lady Michelle Obama walks down Cross Hall as she arrives to host a Mother's Day event for military connected mothers, grandmothers, and spouses in the White House in Washington, DC, May 6, 2011.

WASHINGTON, DC – Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr., more commonly known as the rapper “Common”, was invited by First Lady Michelle Obama among other poets to celebrate American poetry and prose on Wednesday, May 11, thedailycaller.com reports.

Lynn’s divisive lyrics about gun violence, shooting police, and even for burning the president (who at the time was George W. Bush), make him a controversial choice for the White House. “Burn a Bush cos for peace he no push no button,” he raps on a YouTube video with more than 800,000 views.

He is also a known supporter of convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, according to the examiner.com. Abu-Jamal was a member of the Black Panther Party, and was sentenced in 1981 for killing a Philadelphia police officer.

Coincidentally, President Obama and the rapper/poet Lynn are members of Trinity United Church of Christ, reports the New Hampshire Journal. Additionally, Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008 came under fire when the church’s Reverend Jeremiah Wright made several charged sermons in support of Obama.

“Several of Wright’s sermons caused a firestorm of controversy during the 2008 presidential campaign due to their caustic, racially charged, anti-American tones. One sermon in particular caused Obama a severe headache – the one in which he blamed America for Osama bin Laden’s terrorist attacks. ‘America’s chickens are coming home to roost,’ he said.” – New Hampshire Journal

At the time, Obama defended and then rejected Wright, whereas Lynn came to the reverend’s defense.

Lynn also named his daughter after Assata Shakur, another Black Panther party member. In 1977, Shakur was found guilty of first-degree murder and fled to Cuba after escaping prison, reports the New Hampshire Journal.

At the White House event, Lynn and other artists will participate in an afternoon workshop educating children.

The AP reports that other artists invited to attend are Elizabeth Alexander, Billy Collins, Rita Dove, Kenneth Goldsmith, Alison Knowles, Aimee Mann, and Jill Scott.

i say it because i mean it. what has happened to the world when saying you love people is somehow wrong. some of you say over and over again the same opinion. i don't think you're trying to convince yourselves that you feel that way. i just think y'all are very passionate about how you feel. i am too.
it more like this site isn't for LEOs. its only for those who share the same beliefs not profession. i am still on here because of the info. for the most part, the articles are very informative. thread like this are just discussion areas. but i do have a question. i think is was addressed before but i couldn't find it. when is police week? my agency sent officers to DC for events THIS week. we had our memorial during the first week of May. oh no...here it comes...
love y'all and i mean it. its not a joke. i do. gotta love you.

Lol this guy got famous for spouting stupid shit, and for supporting controversial crap. I'd do it too, if I could rap even a bit. Post my white ass on youtube with some anti-whoever bs and get famous. Who cares if he believes it. He goes to Obama's church, that makes him a celeb, and we all know how much the idiotic American public likes celebs.

Koreavet, check up on the terrorist qualifications of the Black Panthers. Their aim at a revolution and overthrowing of "white" government pretty much sums it up. Vague or not, if the shoe fits, wear it. Labeling a group that doesn't really exist anymore by todays standards for terrorist organizations, really isn't worth a discussion anyways.

The admonitions about going off-topic are a bit funny, IMO.

Anyway--more off-topic (on the current topic of discussion in the comments, though):

If all the LEOs who didn't have their agency's express permission (do they really have to?) to be here on their personal time left the site, there wouldn't be very many LEOs left here--and as I have been reminded multiple times this week it's called POLICElink, right?

I'm dubbed one of the hardest workers there, I think people tend to forget or don't know that I am a seasonal worker. I'm laxing a bit, I will be enduring my 11-14 hours shifts again soon enough. PL is not play to me, it's more as a study tool, although I do like to humor the folks here and at work. I do this b/c of the stressful faces on the LEO's that come into the Stadium. No, I do not date any LEO, seek privelages or anything of the sort. They come to work tired, upset and To me there's no better rememdy than a little laughter and they enjoy that. I APOLOGIZE for going off topic right now, I just wanted to clarify that to DonnaLynn. oh yeah, and I don't really HATE CATS EITHER... :)

Ranger719 I'm guessing it's the same reason SpencerStangz says that. LOL When you say something enough times you convince yourself that it's the truth.

Obama was the perfect candidate for those pushing the liberal platform. If you don't agree with his policies, you are labeled a racist. Of course, no one wants that, do they? It's such a crock. When people asked me if I didn't like him because he was black, I told them it had nothing to do with that; it was because he was a communist.

koreavet, you are also hiding behind your racism. The best way to attempt to hide is by yelling foul at the other guy so that no one looks to closely at the yeller! This is not a racist issue like you, blackgold and others attempt to make it. Quit trying to divert the issue.
LonnaNJ, maybe you should work while at work and play on the computer on your off time. You have a right to your opinion as long as it pertains to the topic. You go off topic quite a bit.

one more thing, I've caught some much flack and was almost suspended by my employer for comping to much to the point I had to go to upper management and to get an ok to comp. I catch flack from some of the staff that don't like me being Pro-LEO, I thinks its unfair to catch flack here, when I am here to support LEO. Another MAIN reason I'm here is to learn more about politics, and I thought I had a right to an opinion, no?

The Black Panther Party held no threat or viable status as a terrorist organization, so how is it law enforcement and the media burn this organization down whereas the Ku Klux Klan not only flourished throught American history, many states held KKK members within state government positions, but none of this seems to be an issue.

There have been scores of dictators and mass murderers allied to US Presidents, if US Presidents themselves were invloved in wholesale genocide of American Indians or in Nixons case, Vietnamese civilians, so where this scrutiny with a rapper going to a Whitehouse function as a poet causes disloyalty or discomfort for some is simply a racial and white supremecist heritage ingrained within American society.

Call it for what it is folks, and quit trying to hide behind your bibles and badges like cowards.

Lawmantukes, I've already stated It was a Poor Choice that M.O. made. I'm not going to say she listoned to every lyric Common wrote either. Just today I learned that Police week consisted of honoring the fallen, I thought it was a gathering of officers in support for one another. I mentioned this to my brother, and we both agreed that was(as he put it) F--- U--- and they should have critiqued common. I've even stated my disappointment in Commons lyrics as most of my staff are from the inner city, one of them passed through our new background check and once shot into a building with a .44, in an area that I used to live in 15 or so years ago. Hard to preach to kids about buying a weapon, when the most Mellow man, and director of 8 charities says things of this nature, whether it was a metaphoric phrase, or he was talking out of the side of his neck. I preach pro-leo to them during down time, and introduce them and get them acquanted with the leo's that work alcohol compliance and a couple I know in the money room. I do this for a reason, these kids don't understand live by the sword die by the sword and what life is like for an LEO, and how to respect people that pledge to help protect THEM. Being realistic here, i do have members on my staff that have had a Dad, brother or relative shot, I would be lying if I told you they all just adore LEO, but we ALL know thats not true. I'll go on to reiterate, my friends(which consist of all ethnicities and LEO's) voted Obama, I did'nt Vote for Him b/c I did not know enough about him. I didn't vote for anyone, and Having known McCains relationship with that nut, I wouldn't have voted for him, would you have? I'm not Mudding Any Waters, I didn't make up any Inflated story about McCain. My best guess is everybody here hates Obama more or less because he's a Democrate, that's My point. If we are going to critique the actions of the POTUS, Lets put some power in the Punch~for those that don't yet see a powerful argument not to vote for him. For the layman who don't know politics, we just see everyone saying he's scum, pos yada yada. The Idea MO intentional invited a Guy that tends to burn GWB and carries a gun that ways a ton is enflated. I have a right to my opinion, and my support for LE should not Questionable, I've been there go to go now for 11 years at the Venues I work and I will continue to Support LEO, period. I think Critiquing someone's opinion(and you'll see it's the same people that like to get others worked up) Is in no way supportive, and will drive people away from the great information, advice and articles PL has to offer. I rest my case.

Bump DonnaLynn and LAWMANTUKES, although I feel the verification process is flawed. We need to know who and what we are talking to! Many feel that it is irrelevent but it is not! CW911, in my opinion is a good person who defended this guys right to nondiscloser of his LE status. If his disclosure as LE is a problem with his department then why is he here. Common and all other rappers and people in general who dislike us can go pound sand. Muddy waters hide the most dangerous creatures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TO ALL OF THOSE WHO SUPPORT THE POTUS ON HIS INVITE OF: ANTI-COP AND RAPPER COMMON......................; If by now, especially after the article by "THE WASHINGTON TIMES" you can't understand why we (LEOs) are upset regarding this matter, then their is absolutely no way that you will ever understand the brotherhood of those of us who wear the badge. THEREFORE, I SHALL REFRAIN FROM CONTINUING TO TALK TO AND REPLY TO THE LOST AND MISGUIDED. And so, I shall let this be my final comment of EXPRESSING MY OUTRAGE..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on this subject.
