Obama Invites Anti-Cop Rapper to White House

Obama Invites Anti-Cop Rapper to White House

US First Lady Michelle Obama walks down Cross Hall as she arrives to host a Mother's Day event for military connected mothers, grandmothers, and spouses in the White House in Washington, DC, May 6, 2011.

May 10, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC – Lonnie Rashid Lynn Jr., more commonly known as the rapper “Common”, was invited by First Lady Michelle Obama among other poets to celebrate American poetry and prose on Wednesday, May 11, reports.

Lynn’s divisive lyrics about gun violence, shooting police, and even for burning the president (who at the time was George W. Bush), make him a controversial choice for the White House. “Burn a Bush cos for peace he no push no button,” he raps on a YouTube video with more than 800,000 views.

He is also a known supporter of convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, according to the Abu-Jamal was a member of the Black Panther Party, and was sentenced in 1981 for killing a Philadelphia police officer.

Coincidentally, President Obama and the rapper/poet Lynn are members of Trinity United Church of Christ, reports the New Hampshire Journal. Additionally, Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008 came under fire when the church’s Reverend Jeremiah Wright made several charged sermons in support of Obama.

“Several of Wright’s sermons caused a firestorm of controversy during the 2008 presidential campaign due to their caustic, racially charged, anti-American tones. One sermon in particular caused Obama a severe headache – the one in which he blamed America for Osama bin Laden’s terrorist attacks. ‘America’s chickens are coming home to roost,’ he said.” – New Hampshire Journal

At the time, Obama defended and then rejected Wright, whereas Lynn came to the reverend’s defense.

Lynn also named his daughter after Assata Shakur, another Black Panther party member. In 1977, Shakur was found guilty of first-degree murder and fled to Cuba after escaping prison, reports the New Hampshire Journal.

At the White House event, Lynn and other artists will participate in an afternoon workshop educating children.

The AP reports that other artists invited to attend are Elizabeth Alexander, Billy Collins, Rita Dove, Kenneth Goldsmith, Alison Knowles, Aimee Mann, and Jill Scott.

Guys, I appreciate the positive comments from you all about my last post. The line of duty deaths for 2010 is sobering and to play golf and invite individuals to the Peoples House by President's Obama and Bush is incorrigible.

The non LOD deaths of LE are off the charts, because we suffer ailments that are job related but not recognized because those folks died off-duty. Here are the stats for 2011! Florida leads the way in the fallen. The numbers have already exceeded 2010 numbers and this is only May.

I have been offended by a couple of individuals on this site I consider to be trolls and they will be identified and hopefully removed from the site. I do not wear rose colored glasses I and all of us should accept the fact that racism exists in LE as it exists everywhere else and is exercised by all races. To paint LE with a broad brush as RACIST individuals is racist in itself and irresponsible. The uglier side of the HUMAN RACE has reared it's head again.

These folks do not need a PL Mentor in my opinion; there is no way to retrain a warped, racist and disrespectful mind. No matter, what race they are. The uglier side of the HUMAN RACE has reared it's head again.

snhadley , thank you for the listing of all those brave hero's that we don't really know but we do know them well enough to call them Brother and Sister because we understand what they did every day to earn that hero status and our collective undying gratitude for a job well done and none need worry about the well being of their Families because the remaining Brothers and Sisters will be sure they are taken care of. God Speed to all of you .

snhadley, thanks and God Bless the family and friends of our brothers and sisters who have paid the ultimate price for their communities and nation. Their names are part of history and will never be forgotten and always honored.

snhadley, thank you for posting that. Hopefully that will bring some sobriety to those infected with the common bug. The names on that EOW list should be held as sacred by all, especially here, not mocked by some 2 bit no talent loser.

Shesh, the Obama family is already plagued in the face by the ugly stick. They could at least try to be beautiful and respectable people on the inside. You cant cure a tainted heart, but thankfully for the first lady. Plastic surgery is an option.
The next time the Obama family wants to issue a slap to the face of art or our protectors. Maybe they should think about that second term. But then again, they probably already know thats not going to happen.
Now if something could only be done to remove his fake peace prize and award for government transparency.

Art, DonnaLynn, Ranger719, Robo, and AJSdaddy. The Presidents actions are callous and totally disrepectful to our fallen Brothers and Sisters! For those who can't understand that READ the following. I have included fallen members of our FAMILY who gave the ultimate sacrifice in 2010!!

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The Memorial Service began in 1982 as a gathering in Senate Park of approximately 120 survivors and supporters of law enforcement. Decades later, the event, more commonly known as National Police Week, has grown to a series of events which attracts thousands of survivors and law enforcement officers to our Nation's Capital each year.

The National Peace Officers' Memorial Service, which is sponsored by the Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, is one in a series of events which includes the Candlelight Vigil, which is sponsored by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) and seminars sponsored by Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.)

National Police Week draws in between 25,000 to 40,000 attendees. The attendees come from departments throughout the United States as well as from agencies throughout the world. This provides a unique opportunity to meet others that share a common brotherhood. In that spirit, the Fraternal Order of Police DC Lodge #1 sponsors receptions each afternoon and evening during Police Week. These events are open to all law enforcement personnel and are an experience unlike any other.
