Teen Tortured, Forcibly Tattooed, Left for Dead by Peers

Teen Tortured, Forcibly Tattooed, Left for Dead by Peers

Stetson Johnson, 18, holds back his hair to show a tattoo on his forehead in his home in Oklahoma City, Wednesday, May 4, 2011.

DEL CITY, Okla. — Two men and two women are accused of pinning down a man who has learning disabilities, tattooing the word “RAPEST” on his forehead and shocking his genitals with a stun gun before beating him unconscious with a baseball bat, police said Wednesday.

The accused told police they attacked Stetson Johnson, 18, because he tried to have sex with one of them, according to a police spokesman. Detectives found no evidence to support their claims, he said.

Johnson, of Oklahoma City, said he is acquainted with all four but has never tried to hurt any of them. He said the April 17 attack began when he was thrown to the ground and kicked in the face “dozens of times” by two men while two women took turns using a stun gun on his genitals. He said the attackers yelled obscenities at him.

“I was screaming. It was hurting,” he said. “After they kicked me in the face I said, ‘Oh my god, they’re going to kill me.’”

Two women and two men are being held without bail but have not been formally charged. Capt. Jody Suit, spokesman for the Del City Police Department, said police plan to recommend charges of assault and battery, maiming by disfigurement and kidnapping.

The attackers placed duct tape around Johnson’s hands and held him down while one tattooed the word “RAPEST” on his forehead, Johnson said. The word, apparently a misspelling of “rapist,” has since been covered with another tattoo that looks like a bar code.

The attackers also tattooed a phrase on his chest that resembles “I like little boys,” police said.

They then put Johnson in a car and transported him to Eagle Lake in Del City, where he was beaten in the arms and head with a baseball bat, causing a gash in his head that required 18 stitches to close.

Johnson said he was unconscious for about two hours before he awoke and sought help.

“When I got up I felt dizzy,” he said. Johnson said he tried to get help from motorists on a nearby highway before walking about a quarter of a mile to a mobile home park, where a resident called police.

“They found him almost dead,” Suit said.

Johnson spent a week in the hospital, including three days in the intensive care unit, for treatment of a fractured skull, broken nose and other wounds sustained in the beating.

“They almost killed me,” he said.

Police seized tattoo guns, needles, ink and a Taser gun after the suspects were taken into custody, according to a police report.

Suit says the attackers told authorities they were trying to punish Johnson after one of the women accused him of trying to have sex with her. Johnson denies that, and Suit says there’s no evidence to support it.

“To me it’s bullying. The guy has the mentality of a fifth-grader,” Suit said.

He said the four have not yet been assigned public defenders.

Johnson bears scars from the attack and said he has trouble breathing and seeing out of one eye. He also said he suffers from anxiety and has nightmares about being killed.

“Everywhere I go, I look around like, ’What’s going to happen?’” he said. “I don’t understand why they would do something like this until I was almost dead. They deserve justice.”

He said he would like to have the tattoos removed but cannot afford it. In the meantime, he had the one on his forehead turned into a barcode, with the numerals “7” that he hopes will bring him luck and a reference to 2010, which he said was a good year for him.

Johnson’s mother, Lucy Ford, said she and her son plan to move from their southwest Oklahoma City home.

“He feels that it’s unsafe for him here. He can’t sleep at night,” Ford said. “I just can’t believe that people would be so mean. He’s 18 years old. He has his whole life before him. And he almost lost it?”

Johnson’s sister, Crystal Cline, said the incident makes her fear for the safety of her two small children.

“People are evil these days,” Cline said.

Foxblood..I think everyone on this site would agree that rapists are despicable. That being said, nothing in the article lead me to believe he raped, or attempted to rape, anyone. "trying to have sex" is not attempted rape! If he attempted to force the girl, or continued to make attempts after being told no, then criminal charges would be appropriate. Nothing in the article supported this, nor has he been charged with anything. Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds to me that he was the victim.

I believe the kidnapping took place when the 4 "put him into their car and took him to Eagle Lake in Del City"; at the minimum, it could be considered as unlawful imprisonment. My best guess is that all four knew him; knew that he was mentally handicapped and decided to "have fun with him". If I were the Chief/Sheriff in that area, I would be looking for similar crime types, because I cannot believe that this a "one of".

Learning disabilities is another reason to bully. As if a reason is needed. Sick.

To Jamason675: The media is to report stories or "news" to the public/community. However, they also need to the ole mighty dollar, so the more sensational of a story they can write, the more it will be read, bought, etc.

My comment wasn't about the media. I know the media is out there and they do what they do. My comment was more about the people on a Law Enforcement site jumping to a verdict of guilt from just what is in this story. Law Enforcement should know better than anyone, that stories in the news do not always have all the facts. If they did, then just about every story about Law Enforcement would be true and most Law Enforcement officers are out looking to beat people or shoot them. However, most on this website know that is not true.

If this happened to my son, I would be furious. However, if this happened to my son, I would be removed from the case so that I wouldn't ruin the case by doing something like beating the 4 senseless when I arrested them. That is the BIGGEST officers have to remember. They can not let their emotions come into play on these kinds of cases. If they do, it could mean these people walking free.

In the academy they used a scenario that I keep in my mind.

"You respond to a rape in progress call. You get there and make entry into the house to find a 4 yr old girl that has been brutally raped. You then find the suspect climbing out a window trying to get away. When you make contact with him, he lays down on the ground with hands out and feet spread."

Will you be able to "Use only the amount of force necessary" to arrest him?

If you can't, call someone else to do it. Because the extra "force", whether it be a kick, a knee or a punch, could let him walk free or bring you and your department into paying him BIG $$$ for him to afford a really great lawyer.

Also, you haven't upset. Nobody has upset me. Surprised . . . . yes. :)

This girl could have been leading the boy on and he got the impression she liked him. You can not do this to a handicapped person even if had been a joke. They take it very serious. That is taking advantage of their good nature.

beauinlieuof I do agree with this as well My son has to be held down a lot because of his temper that does ot mean he would rape anyone. I do understand that he has hurt his brothers and me before by fighting and bitting and kicking but I also no that he does not understand sex or anything like that and is in no way interested not to say the boy in the article is the same way he might not be but he is still a human and should be treated like one and so should the 4 that is responisble for what happened to him/.

To KevlarJeep I do understand what you are saying, but what do you think the Media is for? Do you think that they wrote this article to get a rise out of ppl or so that ppl could decide if they are guilty before even going to court? Lets just say this is your son how would you feel? That is my problem I really cannot wait to become a Police Officer so that I can learn the to deal with things like this better and things that ppl say I can learn to deal with that better also. I hope I did not upset you KevlarJeep I just wondered your opinion on this.

A handicapped person is very strong can have the strength of two full grown men. I know this because when my handicapped sister lost her temper from frustration she had to be held down by two or three people until she calmed down. They had to literly sit on her, but they did not hurt her. This was at the home where she was living. This was before her meds took effect. Now she is living a good and friutful life happy.

To Foxblood I myself have a horrible problem with anyone who hurts anyone rapists included. I feel that if the young man had done something to the young lady that beat him half to death than she should have filed a report and let the law deal with him, they should not have ever put their hands on another human being if she felt like he did something out of the way to her why would she do almost the same thing to him? Most woman that are raped do not try to hurt others in the same way they are hurt because they understand that pain, no matter who it may be. I myself understand that because I have been there and I would never do that to the one that hurt me. Put it in the Laws hand and let them deal with the scum

handicapped people are human too. Some people are mean to them because they are afraid of them. They cannot reason the same way a normal person can. I know this because I have a handicap sister. Often they are misunderstood. Often times they are taken advantage of. They have feelings like we do. Those boys and girls need to be.punished for what they did.

Sorry - personal pet peeve. If the kid's innocent fine.. I just really have a deep hatred for rapists. I put them on almost the same par as murderers. All these people broke the law.
