SAN FRANCISCO – As The San Francisco Examiner first reported, a jiu-jitsu instructor saved a San Francisco police officer from a pummeling after an alleged incident involving a Muni citation.
Now, there is a video of the event.
Police say that 23-year-old Paris Augusta assaulted a police officer after the cop escorted him off a Muni bus following a routine fare inspection. Augusta allegedly walked away from the officer and a reserve officer, before one of the cops chased after him and placed his hand on Augusta’s shoulder.
Augusta allegedly turned around and punched the officer, police said.
Jiu-jitsu instructor Pedro Arrigoni — who had just finished a class at the AB Mixed Martial Arts Academy at 2975 San Bruno Ave. — said he saw the suspect attack the officer, and that he then rushed out to subdue the man.
The video obtained by The San Francisco Examiner does not show the original alleged attack by the 5-foot-9, 166-pound Augusta, but it does show the response by Arrigoni.
Augusta was taken into custody and he was booked for assault on a police officer and resisting arrest, police said.
WARNING: Video contains graphic language that some viewers may find offensive.

It would kind of been funny to get up and charge the BBJ instructor with an assault right after though. Legally you could get away with it.

Great to see it. well at least the end of it. Something we need to keep in mind when dealing with the general public. If an officer had treated this guy like dirt at some point, (even a stop)the outcome may have been very different. Just remember, It doesn't take much to turn supporters against us. Thanks Pedro

Yes shit video - but I will say BJJ is a VALUABLE ASSET to any LEO - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I'm a blue belt and I've handled situations without causing too much injury to the unruly person. Very effective for detaining someone.

We need more citizens like this who come to the aid of an officer when needed.

Apparently SFPD isn't hiring anyone who eats red meat and stands to pee. Seriously, no taser, no strikes, no spray, no baton, no control techniques...really? The two officers involved in this situation should seriously re-evaluate career choices.

I applaud the citizen who gets involved. Now the suspect needs 20 years in jail to think about "His Choices".

"The San Francisco Examiner slowed the video down" (to try to find the police doing something wrong!) and I'm sure were amazed and disappointed they couldn't find anything. A-holes! Nice crowd, huh. Thanks Pedro, we need more like you.

How hard is it to work a camera phone? What a goof ball. I bet the Jiu-Jitsu Instructor is sitting there wishing the two cops would get out of his way so he could wrap the guy up like a pretzel. hahaha One of the worst videos I have seen, but I am glad the guy stepped in to help out.

They need to arrest the ass that was running his mouth in the background. We have a local ordinance on 'unnecessary noise by mouth'.

This is awesome! The guys and girls in SF have it tough (so do all LEO's), nice to see someone helping out even in the face of public ridicule.
