SAN FRANCISCO – As The San Francisco Examiner first reported, a jiu-jitsu instructor saved a San Francisco police officer from a pummeling after an alleged incident involving a Muni citation.
Now, there is a video of the event.
Police say that 23-year-old Paris Augusta assaulted a police officer after the cop escorted him off a Muni bus following a routine fare inspection. Augusta allegedly walked away from the officer and a reserve officer, before one of the cops chased after him and placed his hand on Augusta’s shoulder.
Augusta allegedly turned around and punched the officer, police said.
Jiu-jitsu instructor Pedro Arrigoni — who had just finished a class at the AB Mixed Martial Arts Academy at 2975 San Bruno Ave. — said he saw the suspect attack the officer, and that he then rushed out to subdue the man.
The video obtained by The San Francisco Examiner does not show the original alleged attack by the 5-foot-9, 166-pound Augusta, but it does show the response by Arrigoni.
Augusta was taken into custody and he was booked for assault on a police officer and resisting arrest, police said.

How can they call this a video? All you see is the 2 guys on the ground and the 2 cops trying to handcuff the guy for only a second and then the rest was a roller coaster of street, sidewalk, and clothes! Really this video was a bad video. Not to mention if the guy being arrested could have bit the arm of the instructor the way he had his head. So was it really so smart for him to get involved? He could have gotton hurt. Yet I'm glad nobody got hurt.

The only thing that this video shows, in defense of the officers involved, is that it was the instructor who had the suspect in a chokehold, so the hecklers can shout whatever the hell they want to, justice was served, and by a citizen, no less

video was horrible but always glad when a citizen does the right thing...so many time LEOs take care of the community sometimes without them even realizing it so it's nice when a member of the community steps up to do their part

Why even turn the video on if you aren't going to tape the action, bonehead.

I think that it was an outstanding job by a citizen who chose to get involved, rather than to just be a spectator. Good Job by both the Officers and Mr. Arrigoni.

Thanks, really wanted to see your crotch for the first 1:00. Nice camo shorts dewd. 5 seconds of the arrest totally justify the slow-mo showcase of your junk for the rest of the clip. Great job.

I'm a little mad at the crowd in the background. I believe they were yelling things about it being "illegal" because the man in custody is african american while the officers and Jiu Jitsu teacher appear to be caucasian. I also think that the camera man can't be THAT terrible at holding a camera and that maybe he didn't show EVERYTHING in case this video was used in court at a later time. It'd be VERY easy with this terrible footage to say there was police brutality involved or make this a racism case. Unfortunately, THAT is how our society is nowadays. : /

This isn't a worthy video. The guy filmed everything except the action. Looks more like he hung the camera off his belt as he ran around
