Officer Defends His Family During Intrusion At Own Home
Associated Press
April 20, 2011
YUKON, OK — A retired Yukon firefighter was shot and killed by a Piedmont police officer after forcing his way into the officer’s home in Yukon.
Police say 47-year-old Devin Nemecek was killed Tuesday by officer Jack Neumann
Yukon police spokeswoman Klare Ly said Neumann returned home to find Nemecek banging on a door. Ly said Nemecek forced his way into the home and began attacking Neumann before he was shot.
Nemecek’s son — Garrett Nemecek — told The Oklahoman that his father may have been hallucinating. He said his father used an oxygen tank because of injuries suffered fighting a fire and that he sometimes hallucinated when the oxygen level was low.
Police say the two men did not know each other. Neumann is on paid leave pending an investigation.

It doesn't matter where the deceased worked at, the important part is that the officer and his family are safe. The officer did what anybody worth a dime would do, protect his home and family.

Good work Officer Neumann in protecting your family!! It was good to hear the verbal commands from the Officer in the background giving the intruder the warning. Also a good thing to have it recorded on the 911 call.

What if the officer had not just gotten off his shift and was still at work? Did the mother of his children have a firearm to protect herself and her babies ?????

The dynamics of escalation of force, were adhered to. The officer did everything he could to avoid this unfortunate outcome. Prayers to both families as well as the community at large whom both of these men bravely served..

WOW, now that's what I call protecting your family!
It hasn't been the 1st time nor will it be the last an officer has had to defend their family at home.
After most incident's, the suspect is reffered as the victim from the friends, family, community.
As stated below.. The former firefighter had issues. (some known, others unknown) Either way, glad to here the officer & their family is safe! May god bless all involved.

This Is a sad incident indeed, My Heart goes out to all involved. But like everyone else has said already, this Officer had a duty to protect his family, and we don't know the reasons for thie retired Firefighter to act like this, but this was indeed a justified shoot from the looks of it. From what I could hear from the Spokeswoman, it sounded like the officer did try other tactics before shooting.

I have to hand it to the dispatcher, I couldn't understand anything the Officers wife was yelling into the phone. Sounds to me that the Officer did everything he could to get the man to stop his actions and leave and when assaulted, he did what he had to do to protect he and his family.
