New York's Finest Snow-Tow the Line
The New York Post
April 13, 2011
A dozen NYPD cops are grabbing their mitts and putting on their coats to tackle Old Man Winter.
The snowmen with badges are being trained to operate departmental tow trucks in the event civilian drivers get snarled by a winter storm, police sources said yesterday.
The initiative arose in the aftermath of December’s massive blizzard that practically brought the Big Apple to its knees, sources said.
During the severe storm, the Police Department came to the rescue of a large number of civilian tow-truck drivers snowed in at their homes.

So what is next...cops driving subway trains, police mowing the city parks or better yet police picking up trash on the side of the road. Cops are hired to police the streets and keep people safe not drive the sity tow trucks.

Oh man, I can see it now. If the NYPD can do it, so can all the other departments in the region. Damn!

I am sure that the NYPD PBA will look into this matter. I will be willing to bet it's not in the job description or civil service job description. Seems like the Mayor is still trying to save face.

Cops need to police the streets not drive tow trucks. Tow ruck drivers need to tow vehicles, not cops. If the cops can get to work, then so should the tow truck drivers...

Budget problems, cutbacks, layoffs, yet for political expediency NYC will be assigning alrady overextended NYPD officers to drive Tow Trucks during snow storms? What a stupid idea.
