Police Forced to Pepper Spray Unruly Second-Grader; Mother Claims Excessive Force

An eight-year old boy named Aidan was pepper sprayed by Lakewood, Colorado police after acting up in a classroom.

Teachers had barricaded themselves in after the second-grader threw a violent temper tantrum.

Aiden, whose last name was not revealed to protect his privacy, had torn a piece of wooden trim off the walls and was wielding it like a weapon, according to a police report filed about the incident at Glennon Heights Elementary on February 22.

He also threw a television and was threatening to kill the teachers. When police arrived, a spokesman said, they felt they had no option but use use the pepper spray on him.

Aidan told local 9 News, ‘It burned my eyes, and I couldn’t see.’

He was reportedly treated for minor skin irritation.

This was the third time police had been called after Aidan’s temper tantrums, although his mother, Mandy, is criticizing the police for what she considers excessive force, and for treating her young son ‘like a common criminal.’

According to the police report, Aidan ‘was climbing the cart and spitting at teachers. He also broke wood trim off the walls and was trying to stab teachers with it.’

‘I wanted to make something sharp if they came out because I was so mad at them," Aidan said. ‘I was going to try to whack them with it.’

After he refused to obey police, they sprayed him with pepper spray two times. He dropped the stick, and they handcuffed him.

Lakewood police are defending their actions. Aidan was placed on a ‘mental health hold’ and was transferred to a school for children with behavioural issues.

Aidan’s mother told 9 News that her son had been seeing a doctor, but has not been diagnosed with mental problems and is not on medication.

‘I have some anger things,’ the child admitted. ‘I don’t think they’re ever going to go away.’

What the heck is going on at home that is making this little boy so angry? Mom, wake up! None of us are perfect parents but admit to your mistakes, tell the whole story and get your son some help. Obviously if you have had over 13 calls from school just this year, doesn't that tell you something? And don't sit there and tell me that you have no issues with your child at home. Kids always behave differently when they aren't around their parents but not to that extreme. This woman is clearly in denial of her faults and her sons faults. Admit that you both need help, theres nothing wrong with that. Very proud of the police department for their actions!

Why does the media always have to report news like this against police ? Crappy news like this shouldn't even be in the news.... His parents need to give him a butt woopin. This woman (the mother) just wants to get rich quick when something else happens in the future when her son takes the life of some other innocent kid, and he ends up getting hurt or dead. Stories like this in the news makes me sick...

Bump SgtJoe, if he were an Adult, that would be Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Criminal Mischief. She is lukcy the school isn't making the Mother pay for all the damage this kid made. I think this was a Justified incident, and I applaude the Officers for having to make that decision.

Wow, shocking! The mother's reaction is iggnorant, placing blame on anyone but her clearly disturbed son. Had force been used as opposed to spray, it's likely that would have been deemed 'too excessive' also.

Lets hope this boy's name stays out of the news as he grows older.

I don't think we've heard the last of Aidan, unfortunately with his moms atitude, he is probably gonna wind up
spending most of his life in prison, but not not before he brings great harm to innocent people.

I say to you mother, if your son was born back in the time that parents spanked their children for throwing tantrums his backend would know pain. He would know that this behavior will get his backside torn up. With that said I think you mom should wake up and start teaching your child that tantrums are wrong and don't get you your way. I can honestly say a spanking didn't do me harm. I believe the officers did what they thought they had to do to put out a fire that was burning hard. He was threatening the teachers for God sake with a sharp board. I know you can't be that stupid to think that this is ok because if you do then you too have mental problems. This child needs counseling and to be medicated. He also needs a mother and father who will tear that butt up when he acts up. Send him to my wife and me, he will know discipline.
