Update: Suspect Dead After Three LEOs Shot in Standoff

Update: Suspect Dead After Three LEOs Shot in Standoff

Associated Press

March 08, 2011

UPDATE: A suspect has died after a standoff with police at a house in St. Louis, police said. Earlier Tuesday, two federal marshals and a police officer were shot and wounded in a gunfight at the same property, and one marshal is in critical condition.

St. Louis police confirmed in a statement that a “male suspect is deceased.” The statement did not explain how the man was killed.

The two U.S. marshals and a St. Louis police officer were serving an arrest warrant at the house on the city’s south side when a gunfight broke out, according to Jeff Carter, a spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service.

One U.S. marshal is in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Saint Louis University Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Laura Keller said. The other is in fair condition and is undergoing surgery, Keller said.

Keller did not provide the officers’ identities.

A St. Louis police officer was hit in his bullet-resistant vest and suffered a graze wound and injuries from a fall, according to a recorded statement on the city police media hotline. It said he was taken to the Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Jason Merrill, a spokesman for the Barnes-Jewish Hospital, confirmed that one person wounded in the shooting was being treated there, but provided no name or details of that person’s condition.

Television video footage from KTVI in St. Louis showed one marshal being carried down an alley by several officers and being put into an ambulance.

There has been no word on any arrests.

While watching police come and go inside the house about a half-block away, a woman told reporters that her brother was inside the home and had been shot by police. She looked into television cameras and implored the brother to come out and surrender. The woman did not identify herself, and she quickly left in a car with another woman.

As police began to disband, bystanders appeared inflamed and began shouting obscenities at police. One officer with a police dog tried to quell the tempers.

ST. LOUIS – Police are involved in a standoff at a house in St. Louis where two federal marshals and a police officer have been shot.

Another man also has been wounded in the gunfight early Monday.

City police spokeswoman Schron Jackson says there is a standoff taking place at the house. She says she has no more information.

Saint Louis University Hospital spokeswoman Laura Keller says one U.S. marshal is in critical condition and another is in fair condition after the shooting. Both are being treated at the facility.

City police say a St. Louis police officer was shot in his bullet-proof vest and is being treated at Barnes-Jewish Hospital for a graze wound and injuries from a fall.

There has been no word on arrests.

Praying for your brother's family and colleagues. Just read the following AP article -- and how those we serve, protect and lay our lives down for were shouting obscenities at the other officers after three of our own were shot serving THEM. Lord have mercy! The WHY the information did not get to the Officers before hand is because he told it to his friends and relatives who withheld that information, you know, the same people that were cussing and screaming at the police for shooting this fine upstanding citizen.
