Obama: Keep US Agents Disarmed in Mexico
President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder

WASHINGTON, DC – There appears to be some light between President Obama’s position on arming Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents while in Mexico and that of Attorney General Eric Holder, the nation’s top law enforcement official, just three weeks after ICE agent Jaime Zapata was shot to death in northern Mexico with a gun smuggled in from the U.S.
After a White House meeting between Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Obama seemed to convey a reluctance to arm ICE agents while they are traveling in Mexico.
“Our job is to help with information, equipment, to help with coordination,” Obama told reporters Thursday. “We do not carry out law enforcement activities in Mexico. What we can do is make sure that our cooperation is strengthened and deepened over time and we’re constantly refining how we do that in a way that is respectful of Mexico.”
“I assure you that we will be examining all our options and protocols …,” he continued.
The killing of Zapata emboldened U.S. critics of Mexico’s drug policy and earlier this week seemed to have Obama administration officials considering arming U.S. agents working across the border to ensure their safety.
“We have to make sure that those kinds of incidents are not repeated and to the extent that that involves the potential arming of them, that’s something I think we have to consider,” Holder told a congressional panel this week.
Yet, by Thursday both Obama and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano appeared to play down the prospect of arming ICE agents while traveling in Mexico.
“The issue of agents and arming is something that should be discussed in a more classified setting than a public hearing,” Napolitano said in response to a question from Rep. Mike McCaul (R-TX). “It’s an issue that involves not just Mexico but other countries as well.”

amramhakohen ; The majority of the Leadership within the Alphabet Soup Society in Washington is nothing more then recycled College Professors and Administrators without Leadership Abilities (IMHO) . Ruby Ridge and Waco are just the tip of the iceberg for "Inappropriate Entrapment and Bad Planning" in the decisions handed down by the Courts in awarding the Law Suits to the victims. The major problem is real simple , "MONEY". The Congress only allots so much money to the Federal Law Enforcement Branches that must be divvied up amounts the Alphabet Soup contenders. They are constantly in a fight with each other for "HEADLINES AND ARRESTS" in hopes of acquiring more funding. The "STOVE PIPE INFORMATION" or keep it away from other rival Agencies in order to get the Publicity for more money , as was the case of in Ruby Ridge to almost bribe the manufacture of a sawed off illegal gun. Then when it went south the F.B.I. was called in to clean up the mess. Same at Waco when the "Secret Raid was compromised" by the Mail Man resulting in A.T.F. Agents deaths and again having the F.B.I. called in clean up . Now we have a Leadership in place that is "DELIBERATELY BREAKING THE ESTABLISHED FEDERAL LAW BY NOT COVERING THE BORDER AS MANDATED BY THE 1952 LAW SIGNED BY PRESIDENT EISENHOWER , THEN WE HAVE THE SELECTIVE IGNORING AND BREAKING OF FEDERAL LAW AGAIN IN THE CASE OF (DON'T ASK , DON'T TELL) THAT WAS SIGNED INTO LAW BY PRESIDENT CLINTON IN 1996 , AND FINLAY WE HAVE THE DEFENSIVE MARRIAGE ACT SIGNED IN LAW BY PRESIDENT BUSH AND NOW DISCARDED BY THE PRESIDENT AND THE D.O.J... When I was in School my Civics class taught us that "The Congress enacted the Laws" and they became the Law of the Land when the President signed them into effect.
I don't understand how the rank and file of Law Enforcement can do their Jobs of enforcing the Laws they were "SWORN TO UPHOLD" when the roll models from the President and the U.S.Atourney General "FLAUNT THE VERY LAWS THEY WERE SWORN TO UPHOLD" ?
Rant over and "GOD BLESS EVERY AGENT AND OFFICER ON THE BORDERS WHO MUST LIVE WITH THIS CONTRADICTORY PROGRAM PUT FORTH BY THE ADMINISTRATION"...

You know this is just plain and utter stupidity. Do we really lack this much common sense with this administration? Can't wait for re-elections......

BATFE is a incompetant Mickey Mouse organization, and an accessory to murder(s): http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/02/23/eveningnews/main20035609.shtml
And Holder is a worse AG than even Janet Reno was! And let's not forget that other incompetant Janet -- Janet Napolitano ! (not a brain in that head for sure!)

I have to be careful what I say in a negative manner against our FEARLESS leader. The last time I made a negative comment the monitors told me they were going to remove me from the site. I completely disagree, our people are just targets that cannot defend themselves......

Unfortunately, even with our agents armed, it's just unsafe to be in Mexico right now. Large body counts are read off on the news every day...I'm sure some of these murdered victims were armed, and it didn't save them. And a handgun won't do much against the arsenals at the disposal of the Mexican drug lords there. They seem to have little trouble corralling unsuspecting vehicles in traffic and murdering all occupants, with little to no witnesses. Time to bail!

The fact is, I don't believe the Mexican Govt. would ever allow our agents to walk around armed in Mexico.
Mexican citizens would't like it, and some political group would probably claim we were going to take over their
country. Maybe we should just pull American officials out of there, and let the Mexican people and their govt.
sort out their own mess over there, that's probably the best thing we can do.

It's not about performing law enforcement duties. It's about putting agents in a war zone without the ability to defend themselves. Obama and his administration won't ever get a clue.

This insanity needs to stop. Our officer and agents in Mexico are prime targets and the cartels are going after them. Military troops can go to foreign countries armed and conduct armed operations. But, our law enforcement cannot???? Allow our officers and agents to be armed to defend themselves. Or bring them all home. Simple as that. And Mr Obama, there is a huge difference between exercising law enforcement authority and simply defending oneself.

This is terrible! Let’s keep sending unarmed law enforcement officers into Mexico to HELP THEM with THEIR NARCO TERRORISM issues. Why can’t we let the law enforcement officers PROTECT THEMSELVES from the NARCO TERRORISTS? It doesn’t matter how Obama sugar coats what US law enforcement officers are doing in Mexico. They ARE conducting LEO operations to stop NARCO TERRORISTS and illegal criminal activity because the Mexican Government can’t do it themselves! It doesn’t matter if you say it’s only INTEL gathering and support. I believe that is part of daily LEO operations in every agency throughout the US and the world. If officers can’t protect themselves then stop all the LEO aid and secure the border.

Another great reason to get our guys out of the Southern War Zone (and put the Marines on the Border).... If we go there armed, wouldn't Mexican agents seek reciprocity- coming into the US armed as well? That sounds like a recipe for complete disaster.
