Good job by the citizen.
Houston police say a female bystander helped save an officer by jumping on a suspect who had snatched a pistol from the lawman's holster.
Police say the officer was being treated Wednesday for a hand injury suffered during a struggle with the jaywalking suspect.
The incident happened around midnight Tuesday when the officer spotted a man acting suspiciously and illegally crossing the 610 N. Loop frontage road near Airline Drive. The patrolman stopped the suspect and tried to search him. Police say the man lunged at the officer and grabbed his pistol.
Police say the officer was fighting for his gun when a woman jumped on the suspect's back, to help subdue him until more police arrived.
The suspect was in custody facing felony charges of aggravated assault of a police officer and disarming a peace officer.
