I understand the officers decision, but I still don't like it. I don't like the statements made by his lawyer. It appears that the department was not fully behind this officer and these statements made by the chief had a tone of political correctness and appeasement to quiet the unrest of those who did not agree with the DA's decision.
"Buck says Birk realizes in hindsight he should have called for back-up, and that he got too close to Williams." Hindsight is always 20/20 but why would your attorney say such a thing? If he would have known Williams would need to be neutralized, he may have called for a sniper to reduce chances of other citzens being harmed, but in the moment, you don't have the luxury to play the situation over and over in your mind.
