Detroit Police Release Video of Station Ambush

January 29, 2011
DETROIT – He appears calm as he walks into the police station, as if he belongs there.
He steps past vending machines, to the far side of the horseshoe-shaped front desk from the door. Lamar D. Moore is just out of the frame when he fires his first shotgun blast. Officers hit the floor and smoke curls into view.
The graphic surveillance video of Moore’s ambush on the Detroit Police Department’s Northwestern District station Sunday was released Friday, bringing into the public’s view the attack that left four officers injured and Moore dead.
It’s a video that shows a sudden, gruesome attack on police by a gunman implicated in an alleged sex crime and kidnapping. It also shows the heroics of Cmdr. Brian Davis, who engaged Moore in a point-blank shoot-off.
All four officers are recovering from their injuries.
“There were tremendous acts of heroism that rarely individuals get a chance to see,” Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee Jr. said in a video message. “Detroit police officers in action.” Rampage caught on video
It’s a normal Sunday at the Detroit Police Department’s Northwestern District station.
Cmdr. Brian Davis has come in to be briefed on a shooting.
He walks past shoe shiner Modreci Draper, who was there shining shoes for officers, and stops to talk with Sgt. Ray Saati behind the front desk counter.
As Officer David Anderson is standing near Draper, talking to Officer Theodore Jackson, the shadow of a man approaching the front door stretches across the floor of the lobby.
A gunfight is brewing.
And it’s all caught on video surveillance, released Friday by the Police Department.
Lamar D. Moore, a man implicated in a sex crime and kidnapping, launches a brutal attack on officers, injuring four.
From a camera view just over the desk, Moore is seen approaching the side of the desk farthest from the front door. Anderson walks over to Draper, who told the Free Press on Thursday that when he leaned down, as can be seen in the video, he was wiping salt from Anderson’s shoe.

AS MOST POLICE SHOOTINGS HAVE BECOME MORE COMMON PLACE LATELY , THERE SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OUTCOME AS WELL . HOWEVER WHEN THE OUTCOME IS LIKE THIS ONE WAS , ALL THE CREDIT HAS TO BE GIVEN TO THE OFFICERS AT N.W. DISTRICT WHO , UNDER FIRE , ENGAGED THE BEAST , AND WON ! ADDITIONALLY , THE BRAVERY AND HEROISM OF THE DETROIT POLICE CANNOT BE UNDERSCORED AND IS VERY EVIDENT IN THE VIDEO , ESPECIALLY THAT OF CMDR . DAVIS . HE WAS MERE INCHES FROM A THREAT WITH A LARGER WEAPON BUT OBVIOUSLY NOT A GREATER MIND SET . SO I DEFINITELY HAVE TO GIVE THE ARTICLE AND VIDEO A THUMBS UP BECAUSE NOT ONLY DOES IT SHOW COURAGE UNDER FIRE , IT SHOWS THE OUTCOME THAT WE AS LEO's SHOULD EXPECT OF POLICE SHOOTINGS ............ GOOD GUYS : 1 ; BAD GUYS : 0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KUDOS TO MY BROTHERS( AND SISTERS) IN BLUE !!!!!!!!

Just amazing that no LEO's were killed. Looks like two or maybe three went down with the initial blast. The Commander and another officer who looked like he was hit right away were able to return fire at the suspect. The Officer beside the Commander looks like he was hit again and that was when the POS jumped the counter and had a face to face shootout with the Commander. The Cmdr obviously took some hits but managed to keep fighting back until the suspect was finally put down. Not sure who was able to fire the shot that dropped him. I did see what appeared to be a laser light on the POS in the second clip.
Prayers go out to all the men injured for a speedy recovery.
I have had the pleasure or going to many PDs in my travels and noticed that almost all have a secure front reception area. Sad that we have come to this necessary, just very sad.

I am so very glad that the good guys won this battle! I am sure that the one who did this is now getting his just deserts.. Kudos to the Cmdr for risking his life for his men! If he doesn't get a medal for this then someone isn't thinking clearly!

OMG, that is crazy scary! They were shooting at each other at such a close range it's a miracle that officer wasn't killed. What makes people do crap like this, I mean seriousl? In our station there isn't anyone who sits in the open, thank goodness!! Wow, speedy recovery to all who were injured...

This is what the public needs to see- if he would do this to cops at the station then he would have no problem going after the public.
GodSpeed to the injured Officers they did an outstanding job dealing with this. Cmdr. Brian Davis, way to go- when your men needed you,..you stood your ground- and against a shotgun when all you had was a sidearm..(9mm-.45-.40) no cop wants to go up against a shotgun with only a sidearm. God Bless You All..You Are All Hero's!!

Respect for police is once again on the down side. The 70's were also a time of upheaval and questioning of authority. I just pray that it doesn't get any worse. The lesson learned here is......Never think any place is secure, even your own police department.

makes me sick...that SOB deserves to be 6 ft under....what gets me is how easily he gets into the station and with a lethal weapon like a shotgun. Kind of stands the hair up on the back of my neck because someone can just as easily walk into our headquarters. We really don't have any security at our entrances, but maybe an armed deputy and a few dso's....wow
