INDIANAPOLIS – An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer wounded in a shooting last weekend died this morning of his injuries.
David Moore, 29, was pronounced dead about 6:30 a.m. at Wishard Memorial Hospital, said Public Safety Director Frank Straub.
Moore’s family had announced Tuesday night that they would remove him from life support as soon as donor recipients could be found for his organs.
An American flag and a city of Indianapolis flag were flown at half-staff outside the City-County Building near the Washington Street entrance.
Moore, an IMPD patrol officer since 2004, was shot four times — twice in the face — during a traffic stop on Sunday morning on the Near Northside, near 34th Street and North Temple Avenue. He had been in a coma in the intensive care unit since then. Moore also was shot in the hip; a fourth bullet to his chest was stopped by his protective vest.
A brain scan conducted Tuesday revealed that he had lost most brain function.
Police Chief Paul Ciesielski was preparing a formal statement.
Police Chief Paul Ciesielski said a medical scan this morning revealed that Moore will not survive his considerable injuries.

There is little one can say, especially as a police officer in light of what we have all seen transpire over the past 27 days of January 2011. Its almost as if there is some secret code thats being passed among a criminal communication line that is broadcasting "KILL COPS"....... Once again society as a whole is responsible for the deteriation of respect for those who are merley there to protect. This just makes it a bit more frustrating to put a uniform on each day and wrestle with the fact that a guy running a football for a touchdown in the NFL will make more money in one year then I will see in my career. The loss of another brother in blue cuts like a knife in so many ways.....
