Alabama: Officers Acquitted in Videotaped Beating

Associated Press

January 19, 2011

A federal jury has acquitted two former police officers of charges that they violated the civil rights of a man whose roadside beating after a lengthy chase was captured on videotape.

Jurors on Tuesday acquitted David Doran, 37, and Barrett Dewitt, 40, in the beating of Anthony Warren, who was captured on Jan. 23, 2008, after a police chase through Birmingham.

The video showed Mr. Warren striking one officer with his van and nearly running over others during the 22-minute chase.
