Lakewood Police Officer Chris Matlosz was shot and killed tonight by an unidentified gunman in the township, according to three law enforcement sources who requested anonymity.
Police from Lakewood, the State Police and departments from surrounding towns in Monmouth and Ocean counties are conducting a manhunt for the gunman, who shot Matlosz at around 5 p.m.
Matlosz, 27, of Toms River, was pronounced dead after being taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, sources said.
