Woman Runs Down Officer During LODD Procession

ARLINGTON — The woman accused of running into a Fort Worth motorcycle Tuesday when she became annoyed with the traffic from slain police officer Jillian Smith’s funeral procession has been identified as Lorraine P. Levine, an Arlington police spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

Levine, 67, originally was identified as Lorraine Rogson, but that was an alias, said Tiara Ellis Richard, Arlington police spokeswoman.

Levine caused the Fort Worth officer to jump out of the way to avoid being run over, Richard said.

The driver ran into the motorcycle near West Division Street and N.L. Robinson Drive during the procession for Smith, a 24-year-old Arlington officer who was killed while saving the life of an 11-year-old girl.

According to police, the motorcycle officer was not injured, and was standing beside his motorcycle when a woman came at him with her Honda, police said. The vehicle struck the motorcycle, according to police.

Levine was later arrested near the site of the collision and was in Arlington jail on Wednesday. She faces charges of evading arrest and failure to stop and render aid. Bail was set at $7,500.

Smith, 24, and Kimberly Carter, 29, were killed Dec. 28 by Barnes Samuel Nettles, 38, a man with a long criminal history who turned his weapon on himself after shooting the two women, police said. Carter’s 11-year-old daughter, who was present at the apartment during the shooting, ran to a neighbor’s apartment and survived.
