'Hell Broke Loose' In Gunfight That Took Deputy's Life

'Hell Broke Loose' In Gunfight That Took Deputy's Life

German Township Patrolman Jeremy Blum is wounded in a shootout with a gunman at a trailer park near in Enon, Ohio, on Saturday. Blum was shot in the arm and shoulder and was hospitalized in stable condition.

ENON, Ohio — A sheriff’s deputy investigating a report of gunfire at a trailer park was shot dead Saturday, and the shooting suspect was killed after a gun battle with police, authorities said. A police officer was wounded.

The slain deputy was married and was the mother of two children, Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly said. He didn’t release the names of the deputy or the suspect killed in the standoff in Enon Beach, about 50 miles west of Columbus.

The deputy was shot as she tried to photograph a footprint in the mobile-home park, which sits near a highway, Kelly said.

“Our deputy never had the opportunity to return fire or take cover,” he said at a news conference.

Heavy exchange of gunfire as police try to retrieve body

Police officers were trying to retrieve the deputy’s body when the suspect fired on them from inside a trailer, and a German Township officer was wounded in a large exchange of gunfire, Kelly said. There were “many, many, many” shots fired by the suspect and police, he said.

Enon Beach resident Angelina Inman said she looked out of her trailer to see the deputy lying on the ground. She watched as another officer tried to reach her body.

“He was itching to get her,” Inman said. “He kept radioing in, can he please get her, and he was told no because it wasn’t secure. You could see that male sheriff crying — he wanted to get her, he wanted to get her bad.”

Sheriff calls slain deputy ‘just a good person’

It appears that gunfire from Clark County deputies killed the suspect, said Kelly, who has been sheriff for 24 years. He said he had hired the slain deputy and had known her since the police academy. He called her “just a good person, an outstanding deputy,” and said she was the first officer he’s lost.

“This is the worst day of my entire law enforcement career,” Kelly said.

Enon Beach sits near Interstate 70 and acts as a seasonal campground with some summer-only residents and others who live there year-round. A portion of the highway was closed twice for a total of about an hour because the trailer park is so close to the roadway, State Highway Patrol Lt. Gary Lewis said.

Neighbor says gunman had a temper

A girl who lives in the trailer park said she knew the shooting suspect, and she described him as having a temper.

“He was a quiet person, but if you made him mad — he wasn’t very pleasant,” 15-year-old Chelsea Bagley said.

Her mother’s boyfriend, John Burkhardt, said he heard the shots fired in the neighborhood. Police then arrived, Burkhardt said, and for several minutes authorities asked the suspect over a loud speaker to come out and surrender.

“They give him 25 chances to walk out of there,” Burkhardt said. “They were begging him to come out, but he wouldn’t come out.”

Shortly after, Burkhardt said, authorities opened fire on the man’s trailer.

“All hell broke loose,” he said.

I went back to see what this was all about with this POS that murdered our sister having done something like this in the past. I think that this Judge that allowed him out should be prosecuted for the light sentence that he gave to him that allowed him out so that he could murder Deputy Hopper.
In this second post about the hate group, I threw up in my mouth a little bit seeing that website and God help them if I ever run into anyone from that 'group' as I will not be able to control myself in all probability. Is that a threat? No, simply an observation.

    RIP sister.

The ones who always hide and get away without any accountability are the review boards that grant these demons parole. How can they let him out free, whether insane or not? This happens over and over again and no one does anything about it. It is time the officer's guild takes up this matter and starts pushing the lawmakers to make the laws tougher.

RE Freds comment: "He was involved in a 26 hour standoff with LE, in ANOTHER trailer park, and was eventually found guilty of all crimes, but guilty by "reason of insanity". The coward did 2 years in a nut house before being released to kill this time around."

We had a stabbing in southern ohio some years back where the victim was stuck 46 times! After digging into this matter more I learned that the suspect had an address of an apartment building owned by the county mental group!!!! Digging more I learned that the county had purchased about 40+ buildings throughout the region to house the mentally ill with NO SUPERVISION!

Digging MORE into the matter.. The mental health group said they do background checks before renting, but there was a loophole in the courts. If you were nutzo your case would get bound over to the court that deals with the mentally ill, the suspect would get a light sentence and then some liberal bleeding heart would then go back to the court to request expunge of the case so they could qualify for aid/assistance because they are wacko.

So... The so called background checks before allowing them in a neighborhood are mute!

This type of thing is done in many jurisdictions as a cost saving matter as it's cheaper to buy homes on the downlow VS that of paying to run a huge mental institution with staff and doctors and such.

And the best part is... In Ohio, the laws prohibit anyone from taking legal action against a "group home" of such type... So they can move in right next door to your kids elementary school!

In closing... Such a waste of a good soul with the loss of this Deputy. :( I am glad the idiot got what he deserved after the fact and wasn't given another "2nd chance" at taking someone else out.

BTW... Who was the judge on that case that only gave him 2 years for his last standoff with police? I would like to see CNN interview him for his reasoning on that ruling.

Total injustice when this type of thing happens. The old addage, " Everry one is innocent until roven innocent." is not applicable in cases such as this. The trash will continue to kill and be bear hugged by the liberal die-hards. Society needs tot understand that those kind of POSs only will react to one thing: if you kill LEOs you will die shortyl, and that's it. Love, respect and condolenses to Warrior Hoopert and her family. We must, sooner than later, cull the trash out of society if our children can live a normal safe live. God Bless all.
