SHREVEPORT, La. — Shreveport police are thanking a vigilant off-duty Caddo Parish Sheriff’s deputy for his part in the capture of a bank robbery suspect.

Police said a Capital One Bank branch in Shreveport was robbed Friday morning by a man who handed a teller a note indicating he was armed with a gun.

Cpl Willie Williams of the Sheriff’s Office saw a man running and heard a dye-pack explode. Williams chased the man and arrested him. The stolen money was recovered.

Police said 45-year-old Jeffery L. Simmons of Marshall, Texas, was booked with one count of first degree robbery.
